The visiting Spiders (13-12-1) of the Atlantic 10 Conference took the lead for good in the fifth inning against the host Lancers (14-16), who received three hits from freshman

Richmond took an early 2-0 advantage with two runs in the first inning. Doug Kraeger (2-4) singled with one out on a play that saw sophomore
Kyri Washington/Prospect throw-out Spider Tanner Stanley (1-5) at third base when Stanley, who had reached on a fielding error, tried to advance from first. Dacey (2-3, 3 RBI) followed with a two-run home run to right field to score behind Kraeger.
Longwood scored two runs in the third inning to tie it at 2-2. Harvell (3-4) singled with two outs and scored on an RBI double to the left field wall by senior captain
Matt Dickason/Chesapeake (2-5, RBI). Dickason crossed the plate when Washington (2-4, RBI) promptly followed with a run-scoring double to the wall in right field.
The Spiders scored two more runs in the fifth inning to go back in front, 4-2. Stanley singled with two outs and scored on an RBI double to left center field by Tyler Beckwith (2-5, RBI), and Beckwith crossed the plate on a run-scoring single by Dacey.
The Lancers added a run in the fifth, as well, to make it 4-3. Harvell reached on a bunt single, advanced to third on a one-out double down the left field line by Washington, and scored on a fielder's choice RBI from junior

Richmond added another run in the sixth inning to lead 5-3. Eric Flanagan (1-4) singled with one out and crossed the plate on an RBI double down the right field line by Mike Small (2-4, RBI).
Longwood scored a run in the eighth inning to make it 5-4. Sophomore
Travis Biddix/Richmond (0-0) pinch hit and drew a one-out walk, advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored on an RBI single from freshman

Richmond added an insurance run in the ninth inning for the final two-run margin. Kraeger singled and crossed the plate on a run-scoring single from Ryan Cook (2-5, RBI).

Robbie Baker (1-0) pitched 4.0 innings for Richmond to gain the win, scattering four hits and two earned runs with no strikeouts and no walks. Ryan Cook (5) tossed the final 1.2 shutout innings for the Spiders and earned the save, allowing no hits with three strikeout and one walk.
Longwood and Richmond have now met 14 times overall and the Spiders lead the all-time series, 11-3.
