Longwood Welcomes Liberty For Weekend Series

FARMVILLE, Va. –
Longwood University will welcome fellow North Division opponent Liberty University this weekend, April 11-13, for a three-game Big South Conference baseball series at Bolding Stadium in Farmville.  The Lancers enter their fifth league series with a record of 14-20 overall, 4-8 in the Big South, and are scheduled to host the talented first-place Flames (26-8, 11-1 Big South) on Friday at 6 p.m., Saturday at 4 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m.  The Friday game will be broadcast locally on WVHL Radio, Kickin' Country 92.9 FM or via the Internet at wvhl.net, while also video-streamed live on the Big South Network.

Series History
Longwood and Liberty have met 22 times since 1978 and the Flames lead the all-time series, 18-4, including two wins last season in Lynchburg.  The two schools have met seven times since the Lancers became Division I-eligible for the 2008 season, and the Flames lead in those games, 4-2-1.

Pitching Rotations
Longwood will have a pitching rotation that features sophomore RHP Travis Burnette (1-4, 4.33 ERA) on Friday, junior LHP Brandon Vick (3-3, 2.85 ERA) on Saturday and a starter to be determined on Sunday.  Liberty is expected to counter with senior RHP Trey Lambert (7-1, 1.92 ERA) on Friday, freshman RHP Parker Bean (5-1, 2.91 ERA) on Saturday and a starter to be determined on Sunday.

A Look At Longwood Offensively
Longwood is batting .262 through 34 games while averaging 4.5 runs with 21 home runs, six triples, 52 doubles, 147 RBI and 32 stolen bases.  Matt Dickason (.338, 1 HR, 3 3B, 9 2B, 13 RBI, 18 R, 3 SB) has led the Lancers, followed by Scott Burkett (.302, 2 HR, 8 2B, 13 RBI, 16 R), Brandon Delk (.295, 5 HR, 1 3B, 3 2B, 20 RBI, 17 R), Kyri Washington (.281, 7 HR, 11 2B, 23 RBI, 24 R, 9 SB) and Mac McCafferty (.262, 1 HR, 1 2B, 16 RBI, 7 R).

A Look At Longwood Pitching
Longwood has a team ERA of 4.17 over 302.1 innings with 222 strikeouts and 131 walks while limiting the opposition to a .261 batting average.  RHP Aaron Myers (4-2, 1.90 ERA, 61.2 IP, 58K) has led the Lancer starters, making eight appearances with eight starts, two complete games and one shutout.  Myers has been followed by LHP Brandon Vick (3-3, 2.85 ERA, 60.0 IP, 36K, eight appearances-eight starts-three complete games).  RHP Mitchell Kuebbing (1-1, 1.67 ERA, 32.1 IP, 25K, two saves, 13 appearances-three starts) and RHP Travis Burnette (1-4, 4.33 ERA, 35.1 IP, 18K, four saves, 15 appearances-one start) have been solid out of the bullpen.

NCAA Statistics (through April 9)
Longwood ranked 25th in Division I home runs, 53rd in double plays turned and 74th in hits.  Brandon Vick ranked fifth in Division I complete games and 28th in games started.  Aaron Myers ranked 18th in strikeouts, 23rd in complete games, 28th in games started, 60th in WHIP and 65th in hits allowed per nine innings.  Brandon Harvell ranked 18th in sacrifice bunts.  Kyri Washington also ranked 26th in home runs, 53rd in total bases and 62nd in doubles.  Matt Dickason ranked 39th in hits, 51st in triples and 81st in total bases.  Alex Owens ranked 62nd in doubles.  Brandon Delk ranked 64th in home runs.

Big South Statistics (through April 9)
Longwood leads the Big South in home runs, is sixth in batting average, eighth in pitching and 10th in fielding.  Aaron Myers leads the Big South in innings pitched, is tied for second in strikeouts, complete games and shutouts, third in ERA and fourth in opponent batting average.  Brandon Vick leads the Big South in complete games and is third in innings pitched.  Kyri Washington is tied for first in home runs, third in total bases, fourth in slugging percentage, and tied for seventh in doubles and runs.  Matt Dickason is tied for first in triples, and fifth in hits and total bases.  Brandon Delk is tied for third in home runs.  Alex Owens is tied for sixth in home runs.  Travis Burnette is seventh in saves.

Last 15 Games At The Plate
Scott Burkett has hit safely in 12 of his last 15 games (23-57, .404) with one home run, five doubles, seven RBI, nine runs and seven walks.  Matt Dickason has also hit safely in 12 of his last 15 games (22-64, .344) with one home run, one triple, five doubles, eight RBI, six runs and four walks.  Kyri Washington has hit safely in 11 of his last 15 games (18-62, .290) with five home runs, five doubles, nine RBI, 11 runs and five walks.  Mac McCafferty is hitting .289 (11-38) with eight RBI, one run and six walks.  Alex Lewis is hitting .264 (14-53) with one double, three RBI, five runs and one walk.

Throwing Really Well
Aaron Myers has allowed only seven earned runs (1.32) in his last six starts (3-2), including three complete games over 47.2 innings with 42 strikeouts (7.93) and 10 walks (1.89).  Mitchell Kuebbing has allowed only six earned runs (1.67) in 13 overall appearances (two saves) with two starts over 32.1 innings with 25 strikeouts (6.96) and 14 walks (3.90).

Big South-Only
Scott Burkett is hitting .435 (20-46) in 12 league games with one home run, four doubles, five RBI, seven runs and six walks.  Matt Dickason is hitting .358 (19-53) in 12 league games with one home run, one triple, four doubles, seven RBI, five runs and two walks.   Kyri Washington is hitting .286 (14-49) in 12 league games with three home runs, three doubles, five RBI, nine runs and four walks.  Mac McCafferty is also hitting .286 (8-28) in 10 league games with six RBI, one run and six walks.  Mitchell Kuebbing has a 0.55 ERA in six league games with two starts and two saves, pitching 16.1 innings with 13 strikeouts (7.16) and eight walks (4.41).  Aaron Myers has a 2.12 ERA in four league games with four starts, pitching 29.2 innings with 27 strikeouts (8.19) and eight walks (2.43).

Select Season Superlatives
Matt Dickason has a team-best 13 multi-hit games this year, followed by Scott Burkett (12) and Kyri Washington (12), along with Brandon Delk (10).  Alex Owens has a team-best five multi-RBI games, followed by Burkett (4), Delk (4) and Washington (4).  Delk has team season-bests of four hits, five RBI and three runs against Marist (2/22).  Washington had two home runs and eight total bases at William and Mary (3/19).  Owens had 15 putouts at East Tennessee State (2/17) and Radford (3/29).  C.J. Roth had seven assists against Marist (2/23) and Charleston Southern (3/15).  Aaron Myers went the distance in complete games at Wofford (2/28) and Ohio (3/8), and posted 10 strikeouts against Charleston Southern (3/14) and Campbell (3/21).  Brandon Vick went the distance in complete games against Ohio (3/8), Campbell (3/22) and Gardner-Webb (4/6).

Streaks Of Note
Alex Owens has the team's longest hitting streak of 10 games (15-35, .429), tied for seventh-best in the Big South this season, and a streak of reaching base of 11 games.  C.J. Roth has the second longest hitting streak of nine games (13-38, .342).  Matt Dickason has an eight-game hitting streak (14-35, .400), and a streak of reaching base at 12 games.  Kyri Washington has an eight-game hitting streak (11-30, .367) to his credit this season.  Scott Burkett has team's longest streak of reaching base at 17 games.

Perfect Near The End
Longwood is a perfect 12-0 this season when leading after seven innings, and 13-1 when leading after eight innings.

Longwood will play a non-conference game at Norfolk State on April 15 at 4 p.m.  The Lancers are at VMI for another league series, April 17-19.
