Box Score

FARMVILLE, Va. -- Matt Nadolski had three hits and two RBI to lead visiting Campbell University to a 3-0 Big South Conference baseball victory at Longwood University on Sunday afternoon at Bolding Stadium in Farmville.  The fellow North Division Fighting Camels (18-7,  4-2 Big South) swept the three-game weekend series against the Lancers (12-13, 2-4 Big South), who received three hits from freshman Mac McCafferty/Stevens, Pennsylvania in a game delayed for two hours and seven minutes after three innings due to rain.  Longwood will play a non-conference game at the University of Virginia on Wednesday, March 26 at 5 p.m. at Davenport Field in Charlottesville.  The Cavaliers are ranked as high as No. 2 nationally in three of the five primary polls.  The game can be heard locally on WVHL Radio, Kickin' Country 92.9 FM or via the Internet at wvhl.net.

Longwood and Campbell started the game at 1 p.m. as light rain was beginning to fall, and played through three scoreless innings with the rain falling progressively harder, before the umpires finally halted play after three scoreless innings.  A two-hour, seven-minute rain delay followed before play resumed in the fourth inning at 4:02 p.m.

Campbell got on the scoreboard first with two runs in the fifth inning to lead 2-0.  Danny Pardo (1-4) and Steven Leonard (2-5) each singled with one out and scored on a clutch two-out, two-run double to right center field by Nadolski (3-4, 2 RBI).  The Fighting Camels added another run in the eighth inning to lead 3-0, getting back-to-back singles from Nadolski and Elijah Trail (1-3) that had runners on the corners, and Nadolski crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly to center field by pinch-hitter Will Albertson (0-0, RBI).

Longwood had junior Travis Biddix/Richmond (2-3), who had led-off with a single, at third base with outs in the third inning, but a strikeout ended the inning.  The Lancers also threatened in both the seventh and eighth innings, but stranded two runners during each at-bat.  In the seventh, McCafferty (3-4) and Biddix each singled with two outs before a strikeout ended things.  In the eighth, senior Scott Burkett/Williamsburg (0-3) reached on a two-out throwing error and senior captain Matt Dickason/Chesapeake (2-4) followed with a single before another strikeout stopped the threat.

Sophomore Travis Burnette/Lynchburg (1-3) pitched 5.0 innings of relief for Longwood and took the loss, scattering six hits and three earned runs with four strikeouts and no walks.  Freshman Mitchell Kuebbing/Burlington, Kentucky had started and tossed the first 3.0 scoreless innings for the Lancers, yielding just two hits with one strikeout and one walk, but did not return to the mound after the lengthy weather delay.  Burkett pitched the final 1.0 shutout inning, allowing one hit with no strikeouts and no walks.

Ryan Koopman (3-1) started and pitched the first 6.2 scoreless innings for Campbell to gain the win, scattering seven hits with four strikeouts and one walk.  Ryan Thompson (6), who was credited with the win on Friday night and a save on Saturday, tossed the final 1.0 shutout inning for the Fighting Camels and earned another save, allowing one hit with one strikeout and no walks.

Longwood and Campbell have now met 17 times since 2006 and the Fighting Camels lead the all-time series, 11-6.
