Former VMI Player and Glen Allen Native Will Lead Outfield

"I am excited to have Daniel join our staff," remarked Mau. "He is a very promising up and coming coach that brings with him many ties in the state. Wood also spent a pair of seasons with the Petersburg Generals of the Coastal Plains League, a collegiate summer league.

"I am extremely excited and blessed to have the opportunity to join the Longwood staff," said Wood. "With the hiring of Coach Mau and Coach Oxendine there is no doubt in my mind this program is headed in the right direction, and is ready to be elevate to new heights. They are two of the brightest young minds in the game, and to share the field with them is an incredible opportunity."

He parlayed that experience into a position with the Richmond Baseball Academy, spending two years teaching various skills ranging from fundamentals to advanced techniques. Wood also handled hitting, pitching and fielding camps for the Academy and coached the 11-and-under and 12-and-under Richmond Baseball Academy West travel teams.

Wood broke in to the high school ranks in the spring of 2012, serving as the pitching coach and first base coach at The Collegiate School in Richmond. Following, his time at The Collegiate School, Wood joined the Roanoke College staff, where he has served as the pitching and outfield coach for the past two years.
