FARMVILLE, Va. -- Longwood University welcomes Big South Conference South Division opponent UNC Asheville in men's basketball action at Willett Hall on Saturday, February 1 at 5 p.m. in Farmville. The game between the Lancers and the visiting Bulldogs can be viewed exclusively on the

The Game
Longwood (7-15, 2-5) continues its first season of the
Gee Era on Saturday at 5 p.m., as the Lancers play host to Big South Conference South Division opponent UNC Asheville (10-11, 4-3).Â
Jayson Gee, a former associate head coach at Cleveland State for the past seven seasons, was appointed at Longwood on April 3, 2013.
The Series
Longwood and UNC Asheville have met four times since 1985, but only two times (1-1) as fellow Big South members, and the Bulldogs lead the overall series, 3-1. UNC Asheville won the regular season contest last season in North Carolina, 68-65, on January 19, as D.J. Cunningham scored eight points … among UNCA's top returning scorer in that game.Â
Tristan Carey had 13 points and took a potential game-tying three-point attempt in the final seconds … among the Lancers' top returning scorer in that contest. Longwood won the second meeting between the two schools last year in Conway, South Carolina, 87-72, on March 5 during the first round of the Big South Championship … getting 21 points from Carey, and 17 points each from
Lucas Woodhouse and
Karl Ziegler.
The Lancers
Longwood is 7-15 overall, 2-5 in the Big South after an 82-62 home loss to Gardner-Webb on Jan. 29. The Lancers are expected to start senior
Tristan Carey (18.7 points, 5.9 rebounds, 70 3FGs), sophomores
Karl Ziegler (12.8 points, 5.3 rebounds),
Lucas Woodhouse (11.0 points, 7.5 assists) and
Leron Fisher (7.3 points), and senior
Jeff Havenstein (1.8 points). Redshirt-junior
Jeylani Dublin (11.0 points, 4.5 rebounds) will play off the bench. Longwood is shooting 46% (567-1242) from the field, including 37% (127-340) on three-pointers and 74% (312-424) at the line.
The Bulldogs
UNC Asheville is 10-11 overall, 4-3 in the Big South after a 109-105 home loss to VMI on Jan. 28. Nick McDevitt is in his first year as head coach of the Bulldogs. Asheville is expected to start freshman Andrew Rowsey (17.9 points, 2.5 assists, 65 3FGs), redshirt-seniors Jaron Lane (14.2 points, 5.1 rebounds) and D.J. Cunningham (10.4 points, 10.1 rebounds, 3.6 blocks), freshman David Robertson (9.2 points, 2.5 assists, 33 3FGs) and sophomore Sam Hughes (8.7 points). The Bulldogs shoot 44% (526-1200) from the field, including 35% (136-388) on three-pointers and 74% (367-493) at the line.

Athletics Hall of Fame Weekend, as the Class of 2014 will be inducted on Saturday morning in the Nance Room of the Dorrill Dining Hall and will be introduced and recognized at halftime. In addition, it's
Men's Basketball Reunion Day, as all returning men's basketball alumni will be recognized, as well.

Carey, averaging 21.1 points and 5.9 rebounds with 29 three-point field goals (4.1) in the first seven Big South games … he has reached double-figure scoring in 18 of 21 games, and has 12 games of 20 or more points, including a season-high of 37 at Charleston Southern (1/25) … Carey now totals 1,324 career points (9th all-time) in 85 games (15.6) …
Woodhouse, averaging 13.6 points (14-31 3FGs, 13-14 FTs) and 8.9 assists in the first seven Big South games … he has seven games with 10 or more assists, and has reached double-figure scoring in 12 games … Woodhouse has two game-winning three-point field goals this season (at TCU, 11/12/13; vs. Liberty (1/22/14) … he is this week's College Sports Madness Big South Player of the Week …
