2014 Longwood Men's Basketball Reunion

2014 Longwood Men's Basketball Reunion

*01-21-14 Update*
Men’s Basketball Alumni,

As the Men’s Basketball Alumni Day approaches I wanted to reach out to you with further details and an adjustment to the itinerary.  The same day as our Alumni Game we are having our Hall of Fame Ceremony here on campus.  We are inducting the 1979-80 Men’s Basketball Team along with Carmille Barnette ’91 (women’s basketball), Sue Groff ’86 (women’s lacrosse) and Tim Fitzgerald ’87 (wrestling).  We have received several requests from former players that would like to be a part of both the Alumni Game and the Hall of Fame Ceremony.  In an effort to better coordinate our efforts we have decided to move the Alumni Game back to 1:30pm.  This will allow inductees and other alumni to attend both the Hall of Fame Ceremony and the Alumni Game in the afternoon.  I have put a full revised itinerary below.  Please let me know if there are any questions.  I apologize for the alteration to the schedule and hope that this does not cause any logistical issues.  Look forward to having you back on campus!

REVISED Itinerary
11:00am-1:00pm = Hall of Fame Ceremony – Dorrill Dining Hall (Nance Room)
1:30pm-2:30pm = Men’s Basketball Alumni Game – Willett Hall (Lancer Gym)
3:00pm-4:00pm – Meal at Charley’s Waterfront Café
3:00pm-4:00pm – Pregame Hospitality Room – Bedford Hall (Atrium)
5:00pm = Men’s Basketball vs. UNC Asheville – Willett Hall (Lancer Gym)
7:00pm-7:30pm = Little Lancers Kids Club Basketball Clinic – Willett Hall (Lancer Gym)
7:30pm = Post-game Social at Buffalo Wild Wings

Scott Bacon
Associate Athletics Director for External Relations

Dear Longwood Basketball Alum,

Happy New Year from your Longwood Basketball family!  I hope this letter finds you doing well and recovering from the busy holiday season.  We are excited to start Big South play this week with a game at VMI on January 8th and then our home-opener against Campbell on Saturday, January 11th.

I would like to take this opportunity to personally invite you to the annual Reunion Day to be held on campus Saturday, February 1st.  The day will be filled with opportunities to spend time with past players, get to know our current program better and enjoy a great game between your Lancers and UNC-Asheville.  The schedule for the day is as follows:

10:30 a.m. Alumni Game at Willett Hall (gym opens at 10:00)
11:30 a.m. Lancer Shoot Around at Willett Hall
2:00 p.m.  Lunch at Charley’s Waterfront Café (201 Mill Street)
5:00 p.m.  Tip-Off – Longwood vs. UNC-Asheville
7:30 p.m.  Post-Game Gathering at Buffalo Wild Wings (1403 South Main St.)

You will be receiving more information about the event from the athletic department, but I wanted to make sure I invited you because you are part of our family.  As an alumnus of our program, you laid the foundation we are building upon as we take this program to new heights.  You would be proud of how these young men are representing your University.  We finished the summer session with a team GPA of 3.55 and the fall semester a 2.79.  One of our current seniors, David Robinson, has already secured a job upon graduation with accounting firm KPMG in Richmond.  He will be marching across the lawn this spring alongside the four other seniors in our program.  The men are working extremely hard and buying into the vision I have for this program moving forward.

I hope to get a chance to meet you on February 1st.  Please know that even if you can only make a couple of the above events, your attendance will be appreciated.  Send RSVPs to Associate Athletic Director Scott Bacon, baconsm@longwood.edu.  In the meantime, if you have any questions please contact my assistant coach, Cade Lemcke (lemckeca@longwood.edu - 434-242-5537), and he will provide you with assistance.

Thanks again for your continued support of our program.

Blessings,

Jayson Gee
