Aaron Myers/Newport News earned his ninth save with the final 3.0 scoreless innings in the series opener of the weekend's three-game series. Jay Lizanich had two hits and Robby Swab had two RBI for the Blue Hose (23-27, 9-10 Big South), while Beau Dees took the pitching loss. Longwood and Presbyterian will play the second game of the series on Saturday, May 11 at 2 p.m. in South Carolina.
Longwood scored the first three runs of the game in the fifth inning to take a 3-0 lead. Junior

Brandon Delk/Newport News (2-4) to load the bases. Biddix (1-4, 2 RBI) promptly hit a two-run double down the left field line past a diving third baseman to score Owens and Lacy, before Hall (0-2, 2 RBI) added a pinch-hit RBI ground ball that plated Delk.
Presbyterian closed to within 3-2 with two runs in the sixth inning after Aaron Preston (0-3) drew a one-out walk, followed by a single from Brad Zebedis (1-3), before Brandon Paul (0-3) was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Swab (1-3, 2 RBI) provided the key hit for the Blue Hose with a two-run single to plate Preston and Zebedis. PC had threatened in the fifth, but stranded two runners in scoring position after a pair of walks and a sacrifice bunt to open the at-bat, before Morgan got a pop-foul and a fly ball out.
Longwood got a run back in the seventh to lead 4-2 when Lacy doubled to lead off and later scored on a sacrifice fly to right field by Hall. The Lancers added another run in the eighth for a 5-2 advantage as Dickason (3-5) doubled to open the at-bat and later scored on another sacrifice fly to right field, this time by Owens. The visitors scored a final run in the ninth via a two-out, solo home run to left field by freshman
Colton Konvicka/Richmond (1-5, RBI), his second homer this year.
Presbyterian also threatened in the seventh and eighth innings, stranding two runners in each frame, including a pair of two-out singles in the seventh by Ryan Hagan (1-3) and Lizanich (2-5) followed by a lead-off walk to Zebedis and a two-out infield single from Nathan Chong (1-3) in the eighth.
Morgan (5-5) started and pitched the first 6.0 solid innings for Longwood, scattering three hits and two runs, both earned, with three walks and three strikeouts -- all three Ks in the first inning. Myers (9) tossed the final 3.0 scoreless innings to earn his ninth save for the Lancers, allowing three hits with one walk and three strikeouts.
Dees (5-6) started and pitched the first 7.0 innings for Presbyterian, allowing six hits and four runs, all earned, with two walks and four strikeouts.
Longwood and Presbyterian were meeting for the first-time ever in the sport.
