Longwood Falls On The Road At Gardner-Webb 5-2



BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. -- Longwood University dropped a 5-2 Big South Conference women's tennis decision on the road at Gardner-Webb University on Sunday in Boiling Springs, North Carolina.  The Lancers (5-13, 0-8 Big South) swept the doubles contests for a point and received a win in singles from junior Nicole Parker/Richmond at No. 6 against the Bulldogs (8-11, 3-6 Big South).  Longwood will host ASA College on Wednesday, April 10, at 1:30 p.m. at the Lancer Courts in Farmville.

At Gardner-Webb in the match-opening doubles competition, seniors Marta Pinyol/Barcelona, Spain and Allison Shulman/Richmond won at No. 1, 8-6.  Sophomore Malin Allgurin/Värnamo, Sweden and junior Sarah Moomau/Winchester won at No. 2, 8-5.  Senior Hannah Hill/Portsmouth and Parker won at No. 3 by default, and Parker also won in singles at No. 6, by default.  Falling in singles were Pinyol at No. 1, 3-6, 4-6; Allgurin at No. 2, 1-4, retired-injury; Shulman at No. 3, 5-7, 4-6; Moomau at No. 4, 1-6, 6-4, 4-6; and Hill at No. 5, 3-6, 2-6.

Doubles
1. Pinyol/Shulman beat White/Lunde 8-6
2. Allgurin/Moomau beat Doost/Sacko 8-5
3. Hill/Parker won by default

Singles
1. Pinyol lost to White 6-3 6-4
2. Allgurin lost to Doost 4-1 retired (injury)
3. Shulman lost to Lunde 7-5 6-4
4. Moomau lost to Popko 6-1 4-6 6-4
5. Hill lost to Sacko 6-3 6-2
6. Parker won by default
