Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

BUIES CREEK, N.C. -- Longwood University dropped a Big South Conference North Division baseball doubleheader on the road at nationally-ranked Campbell University on Saturday in Buies Creek, North Carolina, falling by a scores of 1-0 and 5-2.  Sophomore Brandon Vick/Newport News took the hard-luck pitching setback in game one with a complete game, three-hitter for the visiting Lancers (17-20, 7-8 Big South), while freshman Colton Konvicka/Richmond had three hits in game two.  Elijah Trail had one of the three hits with an RBI, and Heath Bowers had the complete game mound win in the opener for the Fighting Camels (31-7, 11-4 Big South), ranked No. 25 in this week's Baseball America Top-25 Poll, while Ben McQuown had two hits and two RBI, and Hector Cedano gained the pitching win in the nightcap.  Longwood will host in-state school James Madison University of the Colonial Athletic Association for a non-conference game on Wednesday evening, April 17 at 6 p.m. at Charles Buddy Bolding Stadium in Farmville.

In game one, Campbell scored the only run of the well-pitched contest in the sixth inning.  It was an unearned run as McQuown (0-4) reached on a throwing error at shortstop, advancing to second base on the play, before moving to third on a passed ball with one out and scoring via an RBI single by Trail (1-3, RBI).

Longwood had opportunities, but unfortunately stranded two runners each in the first, fourth and sixth innings.  Two of the threats ended in double plays, while the other on a strikeout, and the Lancers only advanced one runner past second base -- in the first inning.

Brandon Vick (3-4) pitched more than well enough to win for Longwood while going the 8.0 innings, yielding only three hits and one run, unearned, with two walks and no strikeouts.  In his five starts against Big South schools, he is 3-1 with a 1.03 ERA over 35.0 innings.

Bowers (7-0) started and pitched the 9.0 shutout innings for Campbell, scattering seven hits with two walks and eight strikeouts.

In game two, Campbell scored a run in the second to lead 1-0, as Trail (2-3, RBI) doubled and scored on a one-out, RBI single by Nick Ray (2-4, RBI).  The Fighting Camels made it 2-0 with a run in the third after McQuown (2-4, 2 RBI) reached on a fielder's choice and later scored on a run-scoring single from Brent Graham (1-4, RBI).  CU added another run in the fourth to lead 3-0 when Trail hit a solo home run to left field.

Longwood got on the board with a run in the fifth to make it 3-1 after sophomore Travis Biddix/Richmond (1-3) doubled and scored on a one-out, RBI single by Konvicka (3-5, RBI).

Campbell added another run in the fifth to lead 4-1 following an RBI double by McQuown with one out that scored Trevor Lane (2-3), who had also doubled.

Longwood scored another run in the seventh to make it 4-2, as Konvicka singled to lead-off before stealing second ahead of an RBI double from junior Scott Burkett/Williamsburg (2-5, RBI).

Campbell plated its final run in the seventh, as well, when Clayton Brown (1-3) doubled with one out and scored on a run-scoring single by McQuown.

Freshman Travis Burnette/Lynchburg (3-5) started and pitched the first 4.0 innings in the loss for Longwood, allowing six hits and three runs, all earned, with no walks and one strikeout.  The Lancers used three other pitchers in the nightcap.

Cedano (7-2) started and pitched the first 5.1 innings for Campbell, scattering six hits and one run, earned, with one walk and seven strikeouts.  Ryan Thompson (7) tossed the final 2.0 scoreless innings for the save, yielding two hits with no walks and one strikeout.
