Longwood and Buffalo will continue their three-game weekend series on Saturday, March 2 at Bolding Stadium in Farmville beginning at 1 p.m.
Longwood took a 1-0 lead with a run in the first inning as freshman
Travis Burnette/Lynchburg (0-3) walked, moved to second on a balk, stole third base and scored on a one-out sacrifice fly by Owens (1-2, RBI).
Buffalo tied it at 1-1 with a run in the third after Jim Topps (1-3) reached on a fielder's choice, advanced on wild pitch and scored on a two-out RBI single into right field off the glove of a diving second baseman by Mestas (2-3, RBI). The Bulls made it 2-1 with another run in the fifth after a one-out walk to Kyle Figgins (0-2), who moved to second on a balk and on to third via a single from Topps, before scoring on another RBI single by Mestas.
Longwood also scored a run in the fifth to tie it at 2-2 with Washington (2-3, 2 RBI) reaching on an infield single to first base, advancing to second on a sacrifice bunt by freshman
C.J. Roth/Yorktown (1-2, RBI), moving to third on a fly ball out to center field and scoring on a two-out RBI single by Dickason (1-3, RBI). The Lancers went in front for good in the sixth with three runs to lead 5-2, getting a two-out, two-run double from Washington that scored sophomore
Conner Hall/Mechanicsville (1-4), who had reached on a fielder's choice, and junior
Scott Burkett/Williamsburg (1-4), who had singled. Washington stole third base before scoring on a bunt single pushed to the right side by Roth. It would prove to be all the scoring in the quickly played game that only took two-hours and 19 minutes. Senior
Justin Lacy/Glen Allen (2-4) did add two hits for the hosts.
Ream (2-0) started for Longwood and pitched the first 6.1 innings, scattering six hits and two runs, both earned, with three walks and six strikeouts. Freshman
Dylan Caruso/Appomattox pitched 1.2 innings of scoreless middle relief, yielding one hit with one walk and two strikeouts. Myers tossed the final 1.0 shutout inning for the Lancers, allowing no hits with no walks and two strikeouts for his third save in four appearances this season.
McGee (0-2) started and pitched the first 6.0 innings for Buffalo, allowing eight hits and five runs, all earned, with two walks and five strikeouts. Tyler Mautner (2-4) also had two hits for the Bulls.
