Aaron Myers/Newport News gained the save with the final 3.0 innings on the mound. Bryant Noteboom had two hits to lead the Catamounts (3-5), and Adam Curtis took the pitching loss for the hosts. Longwood and Western Carolina will play again on Wednesday, February 27 at 4 p.m. in North Carolina.
Longwood took a 1-0 lead in the third inning after freshman
C.J. Roth/Yorktown (1-4) reached on a one-out infield single and scored on a two-out RBI double by Dickason (2-5, RBI). The Lancers added a run in the sixth to lead 2-0, though missed an opportunity to score even more runs. LU loaded the bases with no outs after three-straight singles from sophomore

Scott Burkett/Williamsburg (2-3). Belk was out at home on a fielder's choice, before Hall (2-3, RBI) was hit by a pitch to score Lacy. Unfortunately, a strikeout and ground out ended the threat.
Western Carolina scored a run in the seventh when Noteboom (2-4) doubled to lead-off, advanced to third on a bunt-single from Bradley Strong (1-3) and scored on a balk by Myers.
Longwood, who had 12 hits in the game, added two insurance runs in the eighth as Burkett was hit by a pitch with one out and moved to second on a two-out single by Hall. Roth reached base on a throwing error by the pitcher that allowed both Burkett and Hall to cross the plate.
Morgan (1-0) pitched the first 6.0 shutout innings for Longwood, scattering five hits with one walk and two strikeouts. Myers earned his second save with the final 3.0 innings, yielding three hits and one run, earned, with two walks and two strikeouts.
Curtis (0-1) started and pitched the first 5.1 innings for WCU, allowing 10 hits and two runs, both earned, with no walks and three strikeouts.
