FARMVILLE, Va. -- Jack Giannini and Anthony Hajjar each collected three hits on the day to lead Fairfield University to a non-conference baseball doubleheader sweep at Longwood University on Friday afternoon at Charles Buddy Bolding Stadium in Farmville. The Stags (2-0) won the first game, 4-0, and took the second game, 6-1, with the pitching wins going to Tucker Panciera and EJ Ashworth, respectively. Freshman

Joe Manion/Midlothian took the respective mound losses. Longwood and Fairfield will play the weekend's three-game series finale on Saturday, February 23 at 1 p.m. at Bolding Stadium in Farmville.
In the opener, Fairfield scored two runs in the fourth inning and added two more runs in the eighth for the victory. In the fourth, Hajjar (2-4, RBI) singled to open the frame, advanced to third on a single by Ryan Plourde (1-3) and scored on a ground out by Giannini (2-4, 2 RBI). Plourde later scored, unearned, after a throwing error. In the eighth, Dean Sadik (0-4) walked, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and scored on an RBI double from Hajjar, who later crossed the plate on a run-scoring double by Giannini.
Panciera (1-0) pitched the first 6.0 scoreless innings for the Stags, scattering three hits with two walks and three strikeouts.
Longwood stranded two runners each in both the sixth and seventh innings, and had just four hits in the game, including doubles by junior
Alex Owens/Purcellville (1-3) and sophomore
Conner Hall/Mechanicsville (1-4).
Vick (0-1) took the tough-luck pitching loss for the Lancers with the first 5.0 innings, scattering five hits and two runs, one earned, with no walks and two strikeouts. Freshman
Dylan Caruso/Appomattox tossed 2.1 innings of relief, yielding no hits and one run, earned, with one walk and two strikeouts. Junior
Ryan Schubert/Springfield pitched the final 1.2 innings, allowing one hit and one run, earned, with one walk and one strikeout.
In the nightcap, Fairfield scored four runs in the first inning, one run in the second and another run in the fifth toward the day's sweep. In the first, Sadik (1-3) singled to open the game ahead of a walk to Rob LoPinto (1-3, RBI) and a single by Hajjar (1-4) that loaded the bases with no outs. Plourde (0-3, RBI) walked to plate Sadik, and after an out, LoPinto scored on a wild pitch. Keith Skinner (1-3, 2 RBI) added a two-run single to score Hajjar and Plourde. In the second, Alex Witkus (2-3) singled to lead-off and later crossed the plate on a grounder by LoPinto. In the fifth, LoPinto singled and stole second before scoring unearned after an error that occurred before an RBI single from Giannini (1-3, RBI).
Ashworth (1-0) pitched the complete game 7.0 innings for the Stags, scattering five hits and one run, earned, with one walk and three strikeouts.
