LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Longwood University dropped a pair of softball games Saturday at the University of Louisville from the BIG EAST Conference, falling in the opener 8-0 in five innings before dropping the nightcap 7-1.  The Lancers (26-20) were no-hit by Tori Collins in the first game against the nationally-ranked #12 Cardinals (37-2), and junior Ashley Cornell|Portsmouth (Churchland) took the pitching loss, while freshman Kori Nishitomi|Kaneohe, Hawaii (Maryknoll) had three hits, junior Brooke Short|Hurt (Altavista) contributed an RBI, and freshman Libby Morris|Dillwyn (Buckingham County) had the pitching loss in the second game.  Longwood and Louisville will play the three-game weekend series finale on Sunday, April 15, in Kentucky at 12 p.m.

In the opener, Louisville scored three runs in the first, two runs in the second, one run in the third, and two more runs in the fifth for the shortened win via the five-inning, eight-run rule.  Collins (17-1) handled Longwood as she tossed 5.0 shutout innings, yielding no hits with one walk and eight strikeouts.  In the first, the Cardinals got an RBI infield single from Taner Fowler (2-3, RBI), a run-scoring single by Jordan Trimble (1-3, RBI), and Hannah Kiyohara (1-2, 2 RBI) drew a bases-loaded walk.  In the second, Alicja Wolny (1-2, 2 RBI) provided a two-run single, while in the third, Jennifer Esteban (2-2, RBI) added a sacrifice fly.  The hosts ended it in the fifth when Kiyohara had an RBI triple, and Whitney Arion (2-3, RBI) had a run-scoring double.

Cornell (10-7) took the loss for Longwood with 4.0-plus innings, allowing 14 hits and eight earned runs, with one walk and no strikeouts.

In the nightcap, Louisville scored two runs in the first and four runs in the second to lead 6-0 before Longwood put a run on the scoreboard in the third.  The Cardinals added a final run in the fourth toward the doubleheader sweep.  In the first, Wolny (3-4, 4 RBI) had a two-run single, while in the second, Esteban (0-3, RBI) reached on an RBI fielder's choice, Wolny added a two-run double, and Fowler (3-3, 2 RBI) had a run-scoring single.

Longwood scored in the third when Nishitomi (3-4) reached on a two-out infield single and scored on an RBI single by Short (1-4, RBI).  Louisville plated its run in the fourth on a two-out RBI double from Fowler.  Sophomore Leta Bressin|Gloucester (Gloucester) (1-4) and freshman Megan Baltzell|Stafford (Mountain View) (1-2) each contributed singles for the Lancers in addition to the three hits by Nishitomi.  Kristin Austin (3-4) had three hits as well for the Cardinals.

Caralisa Connell (13-1) gained the pitching win for Louisville with the first 4.0 innings, scattering two hits and one earned run, with three walks and four strikeouts.  Chelsea Leonard (8) earned the save for the Cardinals with the final 3.0 shutout innings, yielding four hits with two walks and three strikeouts.

Morris (10-10) took the loss for Longwood with 6.0 innings, allowing nine hits and six earned runs, with three walks and one strikeout.
