Longwood Splits Against North Carolina Central | Lancers Win 13-3 Before Falling 4-2

FARMVILLE, Va. -- Longwood University split a baseball doubleheader with visiting North Carolina Central University of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Tuesday at Charles Buddy Bolding Stadium in Farmville.  The Lancers (12-13) won the first game 13-3 before falling in the second game 4-2 against the Eagles (5-22).  Longwood was led in the opener by junior Justin Lacy|Glen Allen (J.R. Tucker) with three hits, including two doubles, and three RBI, and sophomore captain Matt Dickason|Chesapeake (Indian River) added two hits and two RBI, while freshman Brandon Vick|Newport News (Warwick) gained the pitching win.  In the nightcap, the visitors scored four runs in the fifth inning as sophomore Cory Ramsey|Petersburg (Motoaca) took the mound setback despite allowing only one earned run.  Longwood will play again on Friday, March 30, hosting George Washington University of the Atlantic 10 Conference at Bolding Stadium in Farmville at 5 p.m.
   
In game one, Longwood scored two runs in the first, one run in the second, six runs in the third, two runs in the fourth, and two more runs in the sixth.  NCCU managed a run in the third, and two runs in the seventh.  The Lancers got on the board in the first as Lacy (3-4, 3 RBI) doubled to score Dickason (2-5, 2 RBI) who had led off with a single, and Lacy crossed the plate courtesy an error.  In the second, sophomore Alex Owens|Purcellville (Loudoun Valley) (0-1, 2 RBI) drew a bases-loaded walk to score freshman Travis Biddix|Richmond (Mills E. Godwin) (1-2) who had walked as well.  In the third, Dickason added a two-run double, Owens again walked with the bases-loaded, and freshman Joey Varaksa|Charlottesville (Albemarle) (1-4, 3 RBI) contributed a three-run double to the attack.
   
Longwood added to the margin in the fourth via an RBI double by senior captain Robby Newman|Virginia Beach (Salem) (3-5, RBI) and a run-scoring single from sophomore Scott Burkett|Williamsburg (Jamestown) (1-4, RBI).  The Lancers' two runs in the sixth were courtesy a two-run double by Lacy.
   
Vick (4-0) gained the pitching win with the first 6.0 innings, scattering five hits and one run, unearned, with one walk and four strikeouts.  Freshman Tyler Wislocki|Annandale (W.T. Woodson) tossed a scoreless ninth inning, yielding a hit.
   
Deion Doubledee (2-3) and Cory Williamson (2-4, RBI) each had two hits for NCCU, while Jasper Jones (0-3) took the loss with the first 2.2 innings, allowing five hits and nine runs, eight earned, with nine walks and five strikeouts.
   
In game two, Longwood scored a run in the fourth to lead 1-0 before NCCU plated four runs in the fifth to lead 4-1.  The Lancers added a run in the sixth but could not rally back as the Eagles defeated Longwood for the first time in nine games.  In the fourth, Lacy (1-1) doubled to lead off and later scored on a throwing error, and in the sixth, Varaksa (0-2, RBI) had a sacrifice fly that plated Newman (1-3) who had doubled to open the at-bat.
   
NCCU was led by Troy Marrow (2-3, 2 RBI) and Luis Diaz (2-3) with two hits each, and Marrow had the big blast with his two-out, two-run double after an error in the fifth that proved the difference.  Gabe Brown (2-2) got the win with the first 5.0 innings, scattering three hits and two earned runs with three walks and three strikeouts.
   
Ramsey (0-4) took the hard-luck loss with the first 5.0 innings, allowing seven hits and four runs, one earned, with one walk and two strikeouts.  Freshman Aaron Myers|Newport News (Denbigh) struck-out five of the six batters he faced over the final 2.0 innings.
