BUIES CREEK, N.C. -- Longwood University dropped both games of a baseball doubleheader on the road at future Big South Conference opponent Campbell University Saturday in Buies Creek, North Carolina -- falling 9-5 in game one and 5-2 in game two.  The Lancers (11-9) were swept during the three-game weekend series by the host Fighting Camels (18-3) who have won 13-straight while improving to 16-2 at home.  Longwood was led on the day by sophomore captain Matt Dickason|Chesapeake (Indian River) and classmate Alex Owens|Purcellville (Loudoun Valley) -- each with four hits and an RBI, while junior Kyler Morgan|Lancaster, Pa. (Lampeter-Strasburg) and senior captain Matt Gwaltney| Chesterfield (Matoaca) took the respective pitching setbacks.  Longwood will play again on Tuesday evening, March 20, hosting in-state opponent Old Dominion University of the Colonial Athletic Association at Charles Buddy Bolding Stadium in Farmville at 6 p.m.

In the opener, Longwood fell behind 5-0 through four innings before scoring two runs in the fifth and one run in the seventh to only trail 5-3 after seven.  Campbell, however, responded with four runs in the eighth before the Lancers added two runs in the ninth.  In the fifth, sophomore Zach Mihalko|Richmond (Mills E. Godwin) (1-3, RBI) had an RBI single that scored freshman Brandon Delk|Newport News (Warwick) (2-4) who had led off with an infield single.  Dickason (3-5, RBI) also plated a run when he reached base on a fielder's choice.  In the seventh, Dickason had a one-out single and crossed the plate on a two-out RBI single from junior Justin Lacy|Glen Allen (J.R. Tucker) (1-5, 2 RBI).  In the ninth, Lacy and freshman Travis Biddix|Richmond (Mills E. Godwin) (0-4, RBI) each provided RBI ground outs.  Dickason and Owens (3-4) each had three hits in the contest, including a double by each as well.

Morgan (2-2) started and took the pitching loss for Longwood with the first 7.2 innings, allowing 11 hits and eight runs, four earned, with two walks and three strikeouts.

Jimmy Brenneman (2-4, 3 RBI) led Campbell with a home run and a triple for three RBI, while Michael Felton (3-5, RBI) and Bryce Grady (3-4, RBI) each added three hits, including respective doubles, and an RBI each.

Frank Zier (3-0) gained the mound win for the Fighting Camels with the first 7.0 innings, yielding nine hits and three runs, all earned, with no walks and eight strikeouts.

In the nightcap, Longwood trailed 1-0 after three innings before scoring two runs in the fourth to lead 2-1 through five.  Campbell again rallied and scored a run in the sixth, two runs in the seventh, and another run in the eighth.  In the fourth, senior captain Robby Newman|Virginia Beach (Salem) (0-3) walked to lead-off and scored on an RBI triple by freshman Joey Varaksa|Charlottesville (Albemarle) (2-4, RBI), and Varaksa scored on a single from Owens (1-4, RBI).

Gwaltney (0-1) started and took the pitching loss for the Lancers with the complete-game 8.0 innings, allowing eight hits and five runs, four earned, with no walks and two strikeouts.

Jake Kirkland (3-4, RBI) led Campbell with three hits, including two doubles, and an RBI, while Grady (2-3, RBI) added two hits and an RBI.

Ryan Mattes (2-0) gained the mound win for Fighting Camels in relief, pitching 2.0 scoreless innings and yielding one hit with no walks and three strikeouts.
