FARMVILLE, Va. – The Longwood Universtity women's tennis team fell 4-3 in the season-opener against Liberty on Thursday afternoon in Farmville. Junior Marta Pinyol|Barcelona, Spain (IESM Ferran Tallada), freshman Malin Allgurin|Värnamo, Sweden (Finnvedens Gymnasium), and sophomore Sarah Moomau|Winchester (John Handley) each won a three-set match and scored the Lancers' (0-1) three points on the day. LU is back in action Saturday, February 11 traveling to Annapolis, Maryland to face Navy at 11:00 a.m.

Pinyol won at #1 singles 7-6?(4), 3-6, 6-4 over Alexandra Sheeran, Allgurin topped Cameron Richard 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 at #2 and Moomau scored a victory at #5 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 over Carol Lobel. Pinyol and Moomau also paired up at #2 doubles but lost 8-4 to Richard and Brittany Yang. Allgurin played #1 doubles with junior Allison Shulman|Richmond (Deep Run), falling 8-6 to Sheeran and Rebekah Jenkins. Shulman also faced Jenkins in #3 singles, dropping that match 6-2, 6-2.

At #4 singles, junior Hannah Hill|Portsmouth (Western Branch) fell 7-6 (3), 6-2 against Yang, and sophomore Nicole Parker|Richmond (Mills Godwin) dropped her #6 match 6-4, 6-4 to Nicola Wellman. Parker did win 8-3 at #3 doubles, however, with Hill, playing Lobel and Wellman.
