BALTIMORE, Md. -- Longwood University swept both games of a road doubleheader at Coppin State University of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Saturday in Baltimore, Maryland.  The Lancers (4-2) took the opener by a score of 11-0 against the Eagles (0-5) before winning the nightcap 13-1.  Longwood was led in game one by senior Dustin Sollars|Midlothian (Cosby) with three hits and four RBI, classmate Robby Newman|Virginia Beach (Salem) with three hits and two RBI, and sophomore Alex Owens|Purcellville (Loudoun Valley) with two hits and two RBI, while junior Kyler Morgan|Lancaster, Pa. (Lampeter-Strasburg) earned a complete-game shutout pitching victory.  Sollars added three hits and two RBI in game two, and sophomore Matt Dickason|Chesapeake (Indian River) had two hits and one RBI, while freshman Brandon Vick|Newport News (Warwick) gained the mound win.  Longwood and Coppin State will play their three-game weekend series finale on Sunday, February 26, in Baltimore at 12 p.m.

In the first game, Longwood scored one run in the first, two runs in the third, three runs in the fourth, four runs in the sixth, and a final run in the ninth while totaling 16 hits.  Dickason (2-4) walked to open the contest and later scored when Sollars (3-5, 4 RBI) was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.  In the third, Owens (2-5, 2 RBI) provided a two-out, two-run double.  In the fourth, Newman (3-5, 2 RBI) contributed a sacrifice fly and Sollars had a two-out, two-run single.  In the sixth, junior Justin Lacy|Glen Allen (J.R. Tucker) (3-4, RBI) and Sollars each hit run-scoring doubles, while freshman Brandon Delk| Newport News (Warwick) (2-5, 2 RBI) added a two-run single.  In the ninth, Newman had a run-scoring double.

Morgan (2-0) took care of the pitching for the Lancers with the complete-game 9.0 inning shutout effort, scattering just four hits with no walks and seven strikeouts.

In the second game, Longwood scored two runs in the first, and Coppin State scored its run in the first as well.  The Lancers continued scoring throughout once-again, adding four runs in the third, one run in the fourth, three runs in the fifth, two runs in the sixth, and a final run in the seventh while compiling eight hits.  Dickason (2-5, RBI) singled to lead-off and later scored via a throwing error, while Lacy (1-3, RBI) added a sacrifice fly.  In the third, Sollars (3-5, 2 RBI) hit a one-out, two-run triple and later crossed the plate via a throwing error, and freshman Joey Varaksa|Charlottesville (Albemarle) (0-4), who reached on the error, scored unearned courtesy a passed ball.  In the fourth, Dickason again singled to lead-off and later scored unearned on a wild pitch.  In the fifth, Delk (0-3, RBI) and Dickason were credited with RBI on an outfield error that allowed two runs, and a ground-ball out, respectively.  In the sixth, freshman Conner Hall|Mechanicsville (Atlee) (0-0, RBI) provided a sacrifice fly and sophomore Scott Burkett|Williamsburg (Jamestown) (1-2, RBI) added a two-out RBI single.  In the seventh, Newman had another run-scoring single.

Vick (1-0) started and pitched the first 5.0 innings for Longwood, yielding only two hits and one run, earned, with two walks and 10 strikeouts in just his second collegiate starting assignment.  Freshman Aaron Myers|Newport News (Denbigh) tossed the final 2.0 scoreless innings, allowing one hit with three walks and three strikeouts.
