Looking At Longwood
Longwood is 8-16 as senior
Antwan Carter (19.0 points, 9.4 rebounds, 24-straight double-figure scoring games), along with sophomore
Tristan Carey (13.0 points, 45 3FGs), continue to lead the Lancers this season. They have been joined in the lineup by
Martiz Washington (10.6 points, 61 3FGs) and
Jan van der Kooij (6.5 points, 5.8 rebounds), and most recently by
David Robinson (7.7 points). Carter is only the second player in the 36-year history of the program with at least 1,700 career points (1,740) and 900 career rebounds (949), joining former All-American and 17-year NBA veteran Jerome Kersey '84 (1,756 points, 1,162 rebounds). He appears to be on track to surpass all-time scoring leader Kevin Jefferson '90 who scored 1,806 career points at Longwood. Longwood averages 75.2 points while shooting 44% from the field, including 35% on three-pointers (8.7), and 68% at the free throw line.
Head Coach Mike Gillian
Mike Gillian (North Adams State '86) was named the seventh head coach for men's basketball at Longwood on May 2, 2003. The Ayer, Massachusetts native is 83-184 overall with the Lancers, including 8-16 this season, along with a career-best record of 17-14 during 2008-09 when Gillian earned 2009 Independent Coach of the Year honors from CollegeInsider.com. He previously had been an assistant coach for current Miami (Fla.) head coach Jim Larranaga while at George Mason for six years (1997-2003) following a year with Coach Larranaga at Bowling Green State (1996-97).

Longwood is 3-0 all-time against WAU, including a 113-84 win in Farmville last season (2.24.11).
Antwan Carter led the Lancers with career highs and game highs of 33 points and 20 rebounds, and
Martiz Washington added a season-high 23 points, while Jamie Newton led the Shock with 24 points.

Washington Adventist, located in Takoma Park, Maryland, is coached by Patrick Crarey and is 11-11 this season following an 84-62 home win past the University of the Science (2.7).
