WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Longwood University women's tennis team was shutout by Georgetown 7-0 in Washington, D.C. Friday afternoon. Despite the team loss, sophomore Hannah Hill|Portsmouth (Western Branch) and freshman Nicole Parker|Richmond (Mills Godwin) won their No. 3 doubles match 8-5, giving them a 4-2 record on the season so far. The Lancers (3-4) remain in Washington, D.C. to face George Washington tomorrow (Saturday), April 2, at 10 a.m.

In other doubles matches, senior Zsofia Jakab|Minusio, Switzerland (Lices Cantonale Locarns) and sophomore Marta Pinyol|Barcelona, Spain (IESM Ferran Tallada) fell at No. 1 4-8, while sophomore Allison Shulman|Richmond (Deep Run) and freshman partner Bethany Law|Ona, W. Va. (Cabell Midland) dropped their No. 2 doubles match 3-8.

Jakab also fell at No. 1 singles 1-6, 1-6, and Pinyol lost 3-6, 3-6 in her No. 2 slot. Falling at No. 3 singles was junior Veronika Bohm|Hirschberg, Germany (Ludwig Frank) 0-6, 3-6. Freshmen Sarah Moomau|Winchester (John Haneley) lost 7-5, 1-6, 8-10 in the No. 5 slot, and Shulman and Law lost the other two singles matches at No. 4 and 6, respectively. Shulman retired due to injury after losing the first set 0-6 as Law fell 1-6, 2-6.
