Longwood Falls At Florida Gulf Coast 92-44 On Second Day Of The FGCU Classic

FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Longwood University women's basketball team fell on the road at Florida Gulf Coast University 92-44 on Saturday night in Fort Myers, Florida, on the second day of the FGCU Classic. The Lancers (7-22) were led by freshman Bria White|Silver Spring, Md. (Bethesda-Chevy Chase) with 11 points while the Eagles (26-3) were paced by Lerrin Cook and Kelsey Jacobson with 17 points each. Longwood returns to action on Sunday, March 6, when it plays the final game of the season against Seattle University at 2 p.m. in Fort Myers.

FGCU opened the game on a 15-1 run over the first 4:17. A jumper by senior Krystal Garrison|Fredericksburg (Courtland) with 14:56 remaining in the first half was the first field goal for the Lancers, but the hosts scored nine-straight points to lead 24-3 with 12:38 remaining in the first half. The Eagles pushed the lead to as many as 36 points at 52-16 with 1:22 remaining. White hit a pair of jumpers around two free throws by Cook to make the score 54-20 at halftime.

FGCU pushed the lead to 76-28 on a three-pointer by Nicoya Jackson with 10:38 remaining in the second half. The Lancers went on an 11-3 run to cut the lead to 79-39 with 4:07 remaining. Junior Mina Jovanovic|Smederevska Palanka, Serbia (Salt Lake CC) scored five points during the run. The hosts went on a 13-5 run to end the game.

Longwood shot 25.4% (15-59) from the floor, including 19% (4-21) from behind the arc, and 76.9% (10-13) from the foul line. White paced the Lancers with 11 points (5-10 FG) while sophomore Erin Neal|Durham, N.C. (Hillside) scored seven points. Jovanovic scored six points with a game-high 10 rebounds and senior Krystal Garrison|Fredericksburg (Courtland) added six points.

FGCU shot 50.8% (30-59) from the floor, including 55.9% (19-34) from behind the arc, and 76.5% (13-17) from the foul line. Cooke (4-5 3FG) and Jacobson (5-7 3FG) paced the Eagles with 13 points each while Jacobson added a team-high six rebounds and seven assists. FGCU outrebounded Longwood 37-36 and turned 17 LU turnovers in to 27 points.
