FARMVILLE, Va. – The Longwood University women's tennis team played its first match in a month on Saturday afternoon, falling to James Madison 6-1 on Lancer Courts in Farmville. Sophomore Marta Pinyol|Barcelona, Spain (IESM Ferran Tallada) scored the lone point for the Lancers (3-3), earning a 6-2, 6-3 win at the No. 2 singles spot. LU plays on Lancer Courts in Farmville again Sunday, March 27 at 1 p.m. against Norfolk State.

In doubles, Pinyol fell 8-3 with her No. 1 partner senior Zsofia Jakab|Minusio, Switzerland (Lices Cantonale Locarns). At No. 2 freshman Bethany Law|Ona, W. Va. (Cabell Midland) and sophomore partner Allison Shulman|Richmond (Deep Run) also lost 8-3, while the duo of sophomore Hannah Hill|Portsmouth (Western Branch) and freshman Nicole Parker|Richmond (Mills Godwin) dropped 8-2 in their No. 3 doubles match.

For the other singles matches, Jakab lost at No. 1 6-3, 7-5, and  junior Veronika Bohm|Hirschberg, Germany (Ludwig Frank) was topped 6-4, 6-0 at No. 3. Also losing was freshman Sarah Moomau|Winchester (John Haneley) by a 6-3, 6-2 decision at No. 5. At No. 4 and 6, respectively, Shulman dropped 6-3, 4-6, 10-3 and Law went down 8-5.
