FARMVILLE, Va. – The Longwood University women's basketball game against visiting Norfolk State University on Sunday, December 11, was canceled due to a health issue with one of the contest officials.  The 2 p.m. game was only two-and-a-half minutes in when the issue occurred, and the Prince Edward Rescue Squad transported the referee to Centra Southside Community Hospital in Farmville at approximately 2:20 p.m.  The individual was later airlifted to the Medical College of Virginia (MCV) in Richmond shortly before 4 p.m., according to a Centra Southside Community Hospital spokesperson.  A decision was made by both schools to cancel the game, and re-schedule at a later date if possible.  “There are more important things in life than continuing the game,” said Longwood Director of Athletics Troy Austin.  “Right now, our thoughts and prayers are with the individual involved.”
