WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The Longwood University women's basketball team fell 76-43 at the College of William and Mary of the Colonial Athletic Association on Wednesday evening in Williamsburg. Senior Mina Jovanovic|Smederevska Palanka, Serbia (Salt Lake CC) paced the Lancers (1-6) with a career-high 15 points on 7-for-10 shooting from the field. The Tribe (4-2) was led by Taysha Pye with 15 points. Longwood returns to action on Saturday, December 3, when it hosts Radford University of the Big South Conference at 2 p.m. in Willett Hall in Farmville.

Longwood jumped out to an early 8-4 lead after a layup by junior Crystal Smith|Richmond (Meadowbrook) with 16:17 remaining in the game. William and Mary tied the game at 8-8 on a layup by Pye, but junior Chelsea Coward|Mechanicsville (Hanover) hit a jumper push the Lancers ahead 10-8 with 14:41 remaining. Katherine DeHenzel tied the game with a layup, then Pye hit a jumper to give the hosts the 12-10 lead with 14:04 remaining. A layup by Jovanovic off a pass from junior Heather Tobeck|La Porte, Texas (La Porte) tied the game at 12-12 with 13:41 remaining in the first half. The Tribe went on an 11-2 run to lead 23-14 with 9:58 remaining in the half, but the Lancers answered with a 7-0 run to cut the W&M lead to two at 23-21 with 8:19 remaining. Jaclyn McKenna made a three-pointer and layup, then Pye added a layup to extend the lead to 30-21 with 4:25 remaining in the half. The hosts led 36-25 at halftime. In the second half, the Tribe extended the lead to 40-25 in the first 1:38, but a layup by Jovanovic and a jumper by Coward cut the lead to 11. Longwood trailed 56-40 at the under-eight minute media timeout in the second half, but only scored three points the rest of the way as W&M went on a 20-3 run to finish the game.

Longwood shot 35.8% (19-53) from the field, including 8.3% (1-12) from behind the arc, and 50% (4-8) from the foul line. Jovanovic paced the Lancers with a career-high 15 points (7-10 FG, 1-3 FT), while Coward added 10 points (5-12 FG) and four rebounds. Junior Erin Neal|Durham (Hillside), Tobeck and senior Brittanni Billups|Goldsboro, N.C. (Eastern Wayne) each grabbed a team-best five rebounds. Neal dished out for of Longwood's 12 assists.

William and Mary shot 44.6% (29-65) from the floor, including 36.4% (4-11) from behind the arc, and 66.7% (14-21) from the foul line. Pye paced the Tribe with 15 points, while DeHenzel and McKenna added 11 points each. Janine Aldridge grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds, while Emily Correal had nine rebounds. William and Mary out-rebounded Longwood 51-28 and scored 13 second-chance points. The Tribe turned 28 Longwood turnovers into 23 points and received 37 points from its bench.

Longwood and William and Mary have met 28 times in the sport of women's basketball, with the Tribe leading the all-time series 16-12.
