FARMVILLE, Va. - The Longwood University women's basketball team dropped a 63-53 decision to visiting Davidson College of the Southern Conference on Friday evening in Willett Hall in Farmville. The Lancers (4-14) were led by junior
Morgan Smith | Williamsport, Md. (Williamsport) with a season-high 14 points while the Wildcats (9-10) were paced by Ashley Lax with a game-high 19 points. Longwood returns to action on Sunday, January 30, when it travels to College Park, Maryland, to take on the 14th-ranked University of Maryland of the Atlantic Coast Conference at 2 p.m. in the Comcast Center.
Longwood took the 7-5 lead with 17:50 remaining in the first half on a three-pointer by senior
Krystal Garrison | Fredericksburg (Courtland) but struggled to score over the next 9:55, allowing the guests to go on a 14-0 run to take the 19-7 lead with 8:10 remaining in the half. The Lancers answered with a 18-2 run over the next 5:19 to grab the 25-21 lead.

Brittany Jones | Richmond (North Florida). Davidson went on a 9-0 run to lead 35-30 with 17:26 remaining. Longwood fought back to tie the game at 37-37 with 13:36 remaining after a jumper by sophomore
Chelsea Coward | Mechanicsville (Hanover). The Wildcats answered with three-straight three-pointers by Lax off passes from Babara Sitton to take the lead for good. Longwood trimmed the lead to five at 52-47 with 7:13 remaining on a three-pointer by freshman
Emilee Dunton | Forest (Brookville) but could get no closer as Davidson outscored the Lancers 11-6 the rest of the way for the 63-53 victory.
Longwood shot 32.8% (19-58) from the floor, including 33.3% (7-21) from behind the arc, and 80% (8-10) from the foul line. While all 11 Longwood players that played in the game scored,
Morgan Smith (4-12, 3-5 3FG) was the only one to reach double-figures with a season-high 14 points while adding a pair of blocked shots. Junior
Mina Jovanovic | Smederevska Palanka, Serbia (Salt Lake CC) grabbed a team-high six rebounds. The Lancers turned 22 Davidson turnovers in to 23 points. Longwood had seven steals and dished out nine assists.
Davidson shot 41.9% (18-43) from the floor, including 47.1% (8-17) from behind the arc, and 82.6% (19-23) from the foul line. Lax scored a game-high 19 points (6-12, 4-7 3FG) while Katrin Chiemeka added 12 points (2-7 FG, 6-6 FT) and Sophia Aleksandravicius scored 11 points (3-5 FG, 5-6 FT). The Wildcats finished with 16 assists, including seven from Sitton. Davidson blocked seven shots, led by Aleksandravicius with three blocks.
