TOWSON, Md. - The Longwood University men's soccer team fell 3-1 at Towson University of the Colonial Athletic Association on Wednesday afternoon in Towson, Maryland. Sophomore Michael Tegler | Stafford (North Stafford) scored his first goal of the season in the second half. The Lancers (0-5) return to action on Saturday, September 18, when they travel to Jacksonville, Florida, to take on the University of North Florida at 5 p.m..
“We played some of our best soccer of the season at times today,” said sixth-year head coach
Jon Atkinson. “The biggest difference was costly errors that turned in to goals. We have to take the positives from playing against a seasoned team like Towson.”
Longwood fell behind 1-0 in the 13th minute after Towson's Zach Hoffer sent a shot from 30 yards out that slipped past the goalkeeper. The Tigers (5-0) scored the second goal in the 63rd minute on a breakaway goal by Kay Banjo. Liam Maloney tacked on the third goal in the 64th minute to put Towson ahead 3-0. Tegler scored his first goal of the season in the 86th minute off a cross from the far post from freshman

Towson out-shot Longwood 18-12, but the Lancers had a 10-8 advantage in the second half. The Tigers held a 2-1 edge in corner kicks.
