Longwood Falls At Houston Baptist 2-1

HOUSTON, Texas - The Longwood University men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 Atlantic Soccer Conference (ASC) decision at Houston Baptist University on Friday night in Houston, Texas. Junior Zack Mahon | San Antonio, Texas (William Howard Taft) scored for the Lancers (2-11-3, 0-3-1 ASC) against the Huskies (5-7-1, 2-0 ASC). Longwood returns to action on Tuesday, November 2, when it hosts UNC Greensboro at the Athletics Complex in Farmville at 7 p.m.. Admission is free.

The Lancers broke through in the 35th minute when sophomore Devin Pierce | Virginia Beach (Ocean Lakes) ripped a shot that was stopped by the Huskies' Chris Dodd. Mahon collected the rebound and scored, putting Longwood ahead 1-0. Junior Joel Helmick | Springfield (W.T. Woodson) made four saves in the opening period.

Houston Baptist tied the match in the 53rd minute on a goal by Leonel Munoz. The Huskies scored the match-winning goal in the 68th minute when Duke Ogega sent a shot to the lower left corner to push his team ahead 2-1. Longwood had three shots after the Huskies pulled ahead, but Dodd came up with two saves and the third shot went wide.

Houston Baptist outshot Longwood 15-10, while each team had three corner kicks. Helmick made eight saves in 90 minutes while allowing two goals. The Lancers were led offensively by Mahon with one goal on one shot. Pierce and senior Harvey Headley | Coventry, England (Stoke Park) each had a team-high two shots. Dodd finished with six saves while allowing one goal in 90 minutes. The Huskies were led offensively by Munoz and Ogega with one goal each, while Kristopher Tyrpak had two assists and four shots.
