2000 CVAC Men's Soccer Championship Reunion Set For Saturday

The 2000 Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference (CVAC) men's soccer championship team reunion is set for Saturday, October 23 at the Athletics Complex in Farmville. There will be a meal at 12:30, prior to the men's soccer contest against the New Jersey Institute of Technology. The 2000 championship team will be recognized at halftime of the match. Admission is free.

"That 2000 Longwood Men's Soccer Team was a special group that fought hard all year, but really found a way to come together during the CVAC Tournament," said former Longwood men's soccer head coach and current women's head coach Todd Dyer. "As the #5 seed going into postseason, we were probably the only ones that had high aspirations for our team.  But sure enough, one game at a time, we knocked off the tournament host in the quarter-final, the defending champion and #1 seed in overtime of the semi-final, and then we finished that championship run in a sudden death penalty kick shootout against the #3 seed.  It was a magical run and this group earned the right to always be able to come back together and reflect on that championship season."

The Lancers (12-5-3) claimed their first-ever men's soccer title and the first conference championship by a men's team at Longwood. Longwood took the title over Pfeiffer after playing 90 minutes of regulation to a 1-1 tie, followed by four scoreless 15-minute overtime periods. The #5 seed Lancers had the 6-5 edge in corner kicks to secure the title. Longwood defeated the #1 seed Queens in the semifinals 1-0 in double overtime after topping #4 seed Barton 2-0 in the quarterfinals.
