Longwood returns to action on Wednesday, October 13, when it travels back to Richmond to take on Virginia Commonwealth University of the Colonial Athletic Association at 6 p.m.

The Lancers struck first in the 13th minute when van de Kamp scored from the right side off a pass from Verhulst, giving Longwood the early 1-0 lead. Richmond tied the match going in to halftime in the 32nd minute.

In the second half, the Lancers again scored to pull ahead, this time a goal by Lauren Sullivan off a pass from Verhulst in the 47th minute to give Longwood the 2-1 lead. They would not hold the advantage for long as Richmond's Chelsea Davies tied the match in the 49th minute. Catherine Ostoich scored the match-winner in the 65th minute for the Spiders.

“It was the same result we've been having all season,” said third-year head coach Iain Byers. “We played good enough to win, but we couldn't score goals when we needed to. We have to get ready for a strong VCU team on Wednesday.”

Richmond outshot Longwood 14-7 and had a 3-2 edge in penalty corners. Sophomore Kaye Goulding | Tickhill, England (Wakefield Girls) made five saves and allowed three goals in 70 minutes for the Lancers.
