GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Longwood University dropped a pair of softball games to top-ranked University of Florida on Saturday afternoon, falling 11-0 in the first game and 6-0 in the nightcap. Longwood fell to 23-22 while Florida improved to 51-3. Nichole Simmons/Chesapeake (Hickory) collected a hit in both games. Longwood will wrap up the series with Florida on Sunday at 1 p.m. in Gainesville, Florida.

The Lancers fell behind early in the first game, falling in a 6-0 hole after the first inning. The Gators added five runs in the fourth inning to make the final 11-0. Longwood's only hit came in the first inning when Simmons singled up the middle. Brittany Spencer/Virginia Beach (First Colonial) started the first game at pitcher for Longwood. She gave up 11 runs on 12 hits while walking five.

Florida scored one run in the first inning and added another in the second to take a two run lead after two innings. The Gators added another run in the fourth inning before a three-run home run in the sixth inning to make the final 6-0. Simmons singled in the fourth inning and Camille Ketsdever/Irvine, Calif. (Irvine) had a base hit in the seventh inning. Briana Wells/Romoland, Calif. (Paloma Valley) started in the circle in the second game for the Lancers. Wells gave up six runs on eight hits, five of the hits in the three-run sixth inning while striking out four.
