WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -- Longwood University was swept in a baseball doubleheader at the College of William and Mary of the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Sunday afternoon in Williamsburg, falling in the first game 12-3 and again in the second game 8-4. The Lancers dropped to 25-20 while the Tribe improved to 24-22. Longwood is scheduled to play its final home game of the 2009 season this Tuesday night, May 12, hosting James Madison University of the CAA as well for Senior Night at Lancer Stadium in Farmville beginning at 7 p.m.. There is Free Admission to all home Longwood Baseball games.
In the opener, Longwood fell behind 3-0 through three innings before scoring a run in the fourth on a lead-off solo home run to center field by sophomore
Brant Jones/Richmond (Monacan) (1-3, RBI) to make it 3-1. William and Mary scored three runs in the fifth, and four runs in the sixth to lead 10-1. The Tribe added two more runs in the eighth to lead 12-1 before the Lancers scored two runs in the ninth for the final margin. In the ninth, junior

Sophomore
Chris Briere/Midlothian (James River) (3-2) took the pitching loss for Longwood with the first 5.0 innings on the mound, scattering 10 hits and five earned runs with one walk and three strikeouts.
William and Mary was led offensively by Rob Nickle (4-5, 6 RBI) with four hits and six RBI, including two home runs and a double. Kevin Landry (4-5) earned the mound win with the first 7.0 innings, yielding three hits and one earned run with one walk and 10 strikeouts.
In the nightcap, Longwood fell behind 1-0 in the first inning before tying the game at 1-1 with a run in the second on an RBI single from Smiy (1-3, RBI). The Lancers added a run in the third to lead 2-1 after Quigley (1-2, RBI) led-off the inning with a double and later scored on an infield RBI single from freshman
Mike Stancik/Ashburn (Stone Bridge) (2-4, RBI). The Tribe came back with two runs in the third to lead 3-2, and added two more runs in the fourth inning for a 5-2 lead. LU scored a run in the fifth to make it 5-3 on a pinch-hit sacrifice fly by Briere (1-1, RBI). The hosts scored two more runs in the fifth as well to lead 7-3 before each team scored a run in the sixth to provide for the final margin. Quigley drove in the run for the visitors with sacrifice fly. Freshman

Mark Montgomery/Williamsburg (Bruton) (3-4) took the pitching loss for Longwood with the first 4.0 innings on the mound, scattering eight hits and four earned runs with no walks and three strikeouts.
William and Mary was led offensively by Nickle (2-3, RBI) again with two hits and an RBI, including another home run. Jeremy Neustifter (4-1) earned the mound win with the first 4.1 innings, yielding seven hits and two earned runs with three walks and four strikeouts.
