Longwood Falls At Le Moyne 11-4

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Longwood University dropped an 11-4 baseball decision on the road at fellow Independent Le Moyne College Sunday in Syracuse, New York.  The Lancers dropped to 21-16, while the Dolphins improved to 15-17.  Longwood is scheduled to play again on Tuesday, April 21, hosting nearby Liberty University of the Big South Conference at Lancer Stadium in Farmville beginning at 6 p.m..  There is free admission to all home baseball games at Longwood University.
   
At Le Moyne, Longwood scored a run in the first inning on a one-out, solo home run to center field by sophomore Brant Jones/Richmond (Monacan) (2-4, 3 RBI).  The Dolphins scored two runs in the third to lead 2-1 before adding seven runs in the fourth and another run in the fifth to lead 10-1.  The Lancers scored three runs in the seventh as sophomore Chris Briere/Midlothian (James River) (1-3, RBI) had an RBI single and Jones added a two-run double.  LC scored a run in the eighth inning for the final margin.  Junior David Smiy Jr./Chesterfield (Matoaca) (2-4) also had two hits for LU.
   
Junior Lance Harting/Ballston Spa, N.Y. (Ballston Spa) (4-6) took the mound loss for Longwood, yielding six hits and eight earned runs with four walks and six strikeouts over the first 4.0 innings.  Also pitching for the Lancers was freshman Matt Gwaltney/Chesterfield (Matoaca) [4.0-ip, 4-h, 2-er, 0-bb, 2-k].
   
Brett Botsford (4-5, 4 RBI) led Le Moyne with four hits and four RBI, including a solo home run and a two-run double, Chris Edmondson (1-5, 4 RBI) had a grand slam home run, and Matt Marra (2-4, RBI) added a solo home runs as well.  Mark Kuzma (1-1) earned the pitching win for the Dolphins with 2.2 innings of relief, allowing one hit and no runs with one walk and three strikeouts.
   
Le Moyne swept the four-game series in upstate New York this weekend, and won all five games played between the two schools this season, including a 7-3 win in Farmville back on February 27.  The Dolphins lead the all-time series at 7-2.
