Longwood Falls At Le Moyne 9-4

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Longwood University dropped a 9-4 baseball decision on the road at fellow Independent Le Moyne College Friday afternoon in Syracuse, New York.  The Lancers dropped to 21-13, while the Dolphins improved to 12-17.  Longwood and Le Moyne will continue their four-game weekend series in upstate New York with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 18, beginning at 1 p.m..
   
Longwood fell behind 1-0 in the first inning before scoring a run in the fourth to tie the game at 1-1 after sophomore Brant Jones/Richmond (Monacan) (2-5) singled and advanced to second on a fielding error while later scoring on a throwing error.  Le Moyne scored four runs in the fourth, however, to lead 5-1 before the Lancers added a run in the sixth as Jones again singled and later crossed the plate unearned again following another fielding error.  LU closed to within 5-3 with a run in the seventh when freshman Robby Newman/Virginia Beach (Salem) (3-4) singled and later scored on a ground out by junior Scott Kimble/Spotsylvania (Spotsylvania) (2-5, 2 RBI).  The Dolphins scored a run in the seventh as well to lead 6-3 before adding three runs in the eighth to lead 9-3.  The visitors made the final margin 9-4 with a run in the ninth on a two-out RBI triple from Kimble.  Junior Phil Cerreto/Midlothian (Midlothian) (2-4) also had two hits for the Lancers.
   
Sophomore Chris Briere/Midlothian (James River) (2-1) took the mound loss Longwood, yielding eight hits and seven earned runs with three walks and three strikeouts over the first 7.1 innings.  Also pitching for the Lancers was freshman Matt Gwaltney/Chesterfield (Matoaca) [0.2-ip, 1-h, 0-er, 0-bb, 2-k].
   
Matt Marra (2-4, 2 RBI) led Le Moyne with two hits and two RBI, while Chris Edmondson (2-2, RBI) and Matthew Ciraco (2-3, RBI) each added two hits and an RBI, and Don Schaaf (1-1, 2 RBI) contributed a hit and two RBI for the hosts.  Jeff Tardiff (4-2) earned the pitching win for the Dolphins with 9.0 innings, scattering 10 hits and one earned run with one walk and six strikeouts.
