Longwood Set To Host VCU On Monday Afternoon In Willett Hall At 4 P.M.

FARMVILLE, Va. - The Longwood University women's basketball program will host Virginia Commonwealth University of the Colonial Athletic Association on Monday, December 28, at 4 p.m. in Willett Hall on campus in Farmville. Longwood (4-9) is coming off an 85-67 setback at CAA member and nationally ranked #25 James Madison last Monday while VCU (5-5) has dropped three in a row, most recently a 68-58 setback to Arkansas. The Rams and Lancers have met 28 times in women's basketball, with Longwood leading the series 16-12. VCU has won the last four meetings, including last season when the Rams won 79-49 in Richmond. Junior Krystal Garrison/Fredericksburg (Courtland) scored 13 points in last years matchup while sophomore Emma Zieverink/West Chester, Ohio (Lakota West) added 10 points and six rebounds. VCU was led by Kita Waller with 10 points and six rebounds.

Longwood has started the 2009-10 season 4-9 with losses to Virginia Tech (55-77) and West Virginia (43-74). The Lancers dropped their last game at #25 James Madison 85-67 a week ago. Longwood is led by Garrison (9.9) and freshmen Chelsea Coward/Mechanicsville (Hanover) (9.4) and Crystal Smith/Richmond (Meadowbrook) (8.5) while averaging 62.1 points and allowing 69.2 points. The Lancers are coached by Kristin Caruso in her third year.

VCU is 5-5 and coming off three straight losses. The Rams dropped three games at the Duel in the Desert, hosted by UNLV. VCU defeated Virginia Tech 72-58 (11.16) and Winthrop 65-51 (12.15). The Rams are led by D'Andra Moss (18.0) and LaTavia Rorie (14.3) while averaging 68.2 points and allowing 63.6 points. VCU is coached by Beth Cunningham in her seventh season.
