BUIES CREEK, N.C. -- Longwood University played to a scoreless tie in women's soccer overtime action at Campbell University Tuesday night in Buies Creek, North Carolina. The Lancers are now 1-0-1, while the Camels are 0-0-1. Longwood will play again on Sunday night, August 31, hosting the University of Richmond at the Athletics Complex on Johnston Drive beginning at 7 p.m., a contest designated as “Joshua Bolt Day”.
Longwood controlled the action throughout the 90 minutes of regulation and the two 10-minute extra periods but could not find the back of the net for a decisive goal. The Lancers took a 19-10 advantage in shots, though the attempts on-goal were even at 6-6, while the visitors also had an 8-4 edge in corner kicks. Freshman midfielder
Kacie Oliver/Portsmouth, R.I. (Portsmouth) had three shots on-goal to lead the attack. Redshirt-sophomore keeper
Marcia Biddle/Woodbridge (Gar-Field) made six saves while playing the duration in front of the net for Longwood. Boomie Luck played the entire match in goal for Campbell as well with six saves too.
“It's always hard to go on the road and get a result,” said 15th-year head coach
Todd Dyer '93. “It was our first road test of the season and certainly everything that we expected. It was hard-fought and we did manage to create quite a few opportunities at goal, but we need to be a little more dangerous attacking goal.”
On Sunday, the Lancers will recognize Joshua and the Bolt family during a special pre-game ceremony with other activities to go along with this great occasion as well before dedicating the contest to Joshua. Admission is free for all Longwood Athletics fall sports home events.
