The Longwood University Athletics Hall of Fame was established in 2005 to honor those who have made significant contributions to the Longwood University (College) athletics program. This prestigious honor may be awarded to former student-athletes, coaches, teams, administrators, staff or others who have enhanced Longwood athletics through their activities at the institution. Longwood University’s Athletics Hall of Fame is located in the entry foyer of the Joan Perry Brock Center.
Eligibility
Candidates must meet the following criteria to be considered for selection.
Full Criteria Guidelines (pdf)
Individuals nominated for athletic achievement must have made a significant contribution to the Longwood program as a member of a team and earned a degree from Longwood or left the institution in good standing.
Teams nominated for athletic achievement must have distinctive recognition for achievement at the national level, either through competing at the highest level of their sport, earning a national championship one season or through repeatedly qualifying to participate in national tournaments during several seasons.
Coaches nominated must have coached at Longwood for at least five years and have established an exemplary career record or made significant contribution to the development of a program, or received distinctive national recognition.
Individuals formerly employed by Longwood who made significant contributions to the athletics program while they were employed by the institution may be eligible for consideration if at least five years have elapsed since employment.
Other individuals who have made extraordinary contributions to the Longwood athletics program in some unusually outstanding manner, but who do not fit into the above categories, may be considered for inclusion in the Hall of Fame. It is expected that this would be an extremely rare event, justified by only the most exemplary contribution to the program.
