Longwood women's soccer junior Maria Kirby tied her own Division I saves record with 11 stops in a 2-1 upset win over reigning Atlantic 10 champion Duquesne Friday. She dispatched 11 of the 12 shots on goal she faced, including two after Duquesne cut Longwood's lead to 2-1 in the 80th minute, to lead the Lancers to their first win of the season. The 11-save performance was a repeat of another 11-save game she had as a sophomore in 2015 against Richmond, which tied Longwood's single-game Division I saves record.
For the week, the 5-9 junior from Woolwich Township, N.J.,recorded 14 saves and a .824 save percentage as Longwood split a weekend road trip with the 2-1 win at Duquesne and a 3-1 loss at Youngstown State.
