The Lancers are in the midst of an 11-game stretch in which they play only one home game and are coming off a six-day road trip that included games at Maine (L, 92-82) and Columbia (W, 70-69).
•   Wednesday's game will be a homecoming for Greensboro, N.C., native
Kanayo Obi-Rapu, who starred at New Garden Friends School.
•   The conference opener will be Longwood's first against a Big South opponent since a run to the Big South Championship semifinals last season. The ninth-seeded Lancers took down Presbyterian 65-61 in the first round and top-seeded Charleston Southern 68-60 in the quarterfinals before falling 71-58 to fifth-seeded Winthrop in the semifinals.
•   Longwood leads the Big South in assists per game (16.3 apg.), assist-to-turnover ratio (1.3:1), three-point percentage (.387 — 53-of-137) and free throw percentage (.792 — 118-of-149).

Chris Shields' game-winning layup with six seconds remaining, to propel Longwood to a 70-69 comeback road win at Columbia.
•   Shields' game-winner came after Columbia forward Alex Rosenberg hit two free throws with 17 seconds remaining to put the Lions ahead 69-68. Fisher responded by taking the ball up the floor and dishing to Shields for his eighth assist of the night as the Lancers ended the game with a 22-15 run over the final 8:33.
•   Lancer sophomore and Greensboro, N.C., native
Kanayo Obi-Rapu added 15 points, including 12 in the second half. His back-to-back three-pointers in the final four minutes gave Longwood its first lead of the game, 65-62 at the 2:55 mark.
By The Numbers•   Longwood is the top three-point and free throw shooting team in the Big South, posting conference-best marks of .387 (53-of-137) from three-point range and .792 (118-of-149) from the free throw line.
•   Longwood's .792 free throw shooting clip ranks sixth in the nation.
•   Longwood also leads the Big South in assists per game (16.7) and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.3:1). The Lancers have assisted on a league-high 57 percent of their field goals.
•   Longwood's roster includes one of the nation's leading three-point shooter in sophomore guard and Greensboro, N.C., native
Kanayo Obi-Rapu, whose 26 made treys ranks tied for fifth in the nation. A product of New Garden Friends School, Obi-Rapu ranks fourth nationally with a .510 three-point field goal percentage (minimum 45 attempts).
•   Obi-Rapu is averaging 11.3 of his 16.3 points in the second half of games. He is shooting .576 (19-of-33) from three-point range after halftime with four second-half double-figure scoring efforts.
•   Longwood's point guard trio of
Leron Fisher,
Bryan Gee and
Tra'Vaughn White combines to average 15.3 points, 8.6 assists and just 3.3 turnovers per game while logging a 2.60:1 assist-to-turnover ratio. All three point guards average at least 3.0 assists per game, including a team-high 5.3 assists per game from Fisher.

Chris Shields is the fifth leading bench scorer in the Big South, averaging 8.2 points per game. Shields has contributed at least one field goal in all seven games and is shooting .526 (20-of-38) from the floor.
•   Big South Preseason All-Conference center
Lotanna Nwogbo is one of only four players in the conference averaging at least 10.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.0 blocks per game. He is one of only three players to rank among the Big South's top 10 in all three categories.
