Hill Named Big South Freshman Of The Week for Second Time

Men's Basketball /
FARMVILLE, Va. — After putting together his ninth double-digit scoring game of the season, Longwood freshman Justin Hill has been named Big South Freshman of the Week for a second time, the conference announced Monday.

In two games against undefeated Winthrop, Hill averaged 11.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.0 steals per game. He opened the week with a 15-point outburst in Friday's opener, hitting 4-of-8 field goals and 6-of-7 shots from the free throw line. In his follow-up 24 hours later Saturday, he poured in eight points and two assists off the bench.

Monday's award makes Hill only the second Lancer to earn Big South Freshman of the Week honors multiple times, joining former Longwood standout Michael Kessens, who earned the recognition four times in 2012-13.

Hill is the fourth in program history to net the award, joining sophomore teammate Leslie Nkereuwem (2019-20), Ryan Badowski (2014-15) and Kessens (2012-13).

Midway through his breakout freshman season at Longwood, Hill leads all league freshmen in assists and ranks third among that group in both scoring and rebounding. He is averaging 10.7 points, 4.9 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game and also ranks along the Big South's top 10 with a 1.4 assist-to-turnover ratio.

Hill and the Lancers will return to the court this Tuesday and Wednesday to host Big South rival High Point at 6 p.m. both nights in Willett Hall.
