Keegan Smith came to Longwood in the summer of 2022 as the Assistant Director of Sports Performance following one season at Louisiana Tech University. At Longwood, he is responsible for women's basketball, softball, women's lacrosse, cheer, and men's and women's track.
In his first season with Longwood softball, Smith helped the program claim a second-consecutive Big South regular season title. In addition, numerous improvements to the team's hitting statistics were made, including a higher slugging percentage and more home runs while playing less games from the previous year. The team also saw an increase in stolen base percentage under Smith's guidance.
In addition, several players took serious strides under Smith's development. Emily Vinson was awarded the NFCA's Rawlings Gold Glove, marking her as the best defensive left fielder in all of Division-I softball. In 2023, Jaden Pone took home the Big South Player of the Year and was named a First-Team All-Region selection by the NFCA. Smith also helped lead the Lancers to two top ten victories against ACC powerhouses Florida State and Duke.

While at Louisiana Tech, he was responsible for program design and implementation for softball as well as men’s and women’s track and field, with the softball team winning the 2022 Conference USA regular season title.
Â
Prior to Louisiana Tech, Smith was a graduate assistant with the Jacksonville State football team from 2019-2021. During his two years there, he also oversaw women’s track and field, men’s and women’s cross country, and men’s and women’s tennis. He also assisted with baseball, softball, volleyball, beach volleyball, women’s soccer and rifle. In his final season, he was a part of the staff for the football team that won the 2021 Ohio Valley Championship.
Â
Before heading to Jacksonville State, he worked with Alabama football strength and conditioning as a student intern from 2018-19. The Crimson Tide won the 2018 SEC Championship while finishing as the national runner-up, and a bevy of players from that team dot NFL rosters across the country. He also helped with the men’s tennis strength and conditioning while interning at Alabama.
Â
Smith has a certification as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) from the National Strength & Conditioning Association and is also CPR/AED/First-Aid certified through the American Heart Association.
Â
He obtained his Bachelor’s of Science in Exercise Science in 2019 from Alabama, and he earned his Master’s of Science in Sports Management in 2021 from Jacksonville State.
