Jakob Gustafsson

Jakob Gustafsson is in his seventh year at Longwood University during 2014-15, and his fourth season as the men's tennis head coach after being named to the position on July 26, 2011. He has compiled a 14-43 overall record during his tenure at Longwood with the men's team. In 2013-14, Gustafsson led his squad to a 1-18 mark overall, including an 0-8 record in the Big South Conferece.

Gustafsson guided his 2012-13 squad to a 5-15 mark overall, including an 0-8 record in the Big South.  Gustafsson led the Lancers to a record of 8-10 during 2011-12, his first year at the helm of the program.

Previously, he was the women's tennis head coach, as well from 2011-13. He led the women's program to a record of 7-14 in 2012-13 after earning a 10-10 marking in 2011-12. Gustafsson had served as the assistant coach for both tennis programs at Longwood since 2008-09, and previously was an assistant coach at Morehead State University in Kentucky from 2006-08, following a four-year collegiate playing career at the University of Louisville.

Gustafsson was a standout student-athlete at Louisville where he posted a 72-29 career singles record, and a 77-43 career doubles record while helping the Cardinals to the 2006 Big East Conference Championship. He was ranked as high as #19 nationally in doubles, and #120 in singles as a senior during 2005-06 while the only player to be unanimously voted All-Big East in both singles and doubles that year. Gustafsson was named All-Conference USA (3rd-team) as a junior in 2005 when he was the Louisville team Most Valuable Player as well. The Cardinals advanced to three post-season NCAA Tournaments during his undergraduate career.

Gustafsson excelled in the classroom as well at Louisville, named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll throughout his four years. He was a two-time Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Scholar-Athlete (2005-06), and was the 2004-05 Conference USA Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Gustafsson received the 2006 ITA/Arthur Ashe Award for Leadership and Sportsmanship as well.

A native of Hollviken, Sweden, Gustafsson earned his Bachelor of Science degree in health and human performance with a concentration in exercise science from Louisville. He earned his Master of Arts degree in health, physical education and sports sciences with a specialization in sport management at Morehead State in 2008.
