Biography
2018-19: A sixth-year standout of the program who positively impacts Longwood basketball in every area…entering his fifth year as a team captain after being elected to that post by his teammates as a true sophomore in 2014-15…rebounded from back-to-back season-ending injuries to enjoy a breakout 2017-18 campaign, setting career highs in nearly every category while emerging as an interior force on both sides of the court…possesses an extremely high basketball IQ as well as a unique combination of size, strength, and ball-handling ability…can play every position on the floor, from the point to the post…fundamentally sound in nearly every area of the game…combines athleticism and strength with meticulous footwork and court vision…a graduate student pursuing his master’s in social work, an area of study inspired by his younger brother who has autism.
2017-18: Returned from a two-year injury hiatus to put together a breakout season as a redshirt junior…captained the team for the fourth straight year...started 28 of 29 games, averaging career highs with 8.3 points, 7.3 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 0.9 steals and 1.2 blocks per game…finished top five in the Big South in rebounds and blocks per game…also ranked 10th with 33.1 minutes per game…led the team in rebounds (211), field goal percentage (.571), blocks (34) and a 1.3 assist-to-turnover ratio (58:44)…posted the first two double-doubles of his career, grabbing 10 boards with 12 points against High Point on Jan. 21 and 14 rebounds with 10 points against Charleston Southern on Feb. 15…led the team with a .571 (92-of-161) field goal percentage…also set a career high with a .663 (55-of-83) free throw percentage…scored in double figures 12 times, including a career-best 19 points against UNC Asheville on Feb. 7…grabbed double-digit rebounds five times, setting career highs twice with 14 rebounds against Campbell on Jan. 15 and Charleston Southern on Feb. 15…led the team with 61 offensive rebounds...scored in double figures in eight of his 18 Big South games…made more field goals than he missed in nine of his final 10 games.
2016-17: Served as team captain for the third straight year…started the first three games of the season before suffering a season-ending broken foot against Salem International on Nov. 18...that season-ending injury derailed his second straight season after he missed all of 2015-16 due to shoulder surgery…prior to the foot injury, was averaging a career-high 26.0 minutes and 3.0 points per game…scored and registered at least one steal in all three games to start the year…played more than 30 minutes in his first two games before the foot injury forced him to the bench 13 minutes into the Salem International game…also played 30 minutes in the exhibition against Hampden-Sydney.
2015-16: Missed the 2015-16 season while recovering from shoulder surgery...received a medical hardship waiver...took on a significant leadership role as a student assistant coach.
2014-15: Started 31 of 34 games, averaging 1.9 points, 4.3 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 0.9 blocks and 0.9 steals per game…team captain…named to the Big South All-Academic Team…shot .580 (29-of-50) from the floor…logged a 1.5:1 assist-to-turnover ratio with 49 assists and 33 turnovers in 34 games…grabbed a career-high 10 rebounds in a win over Liberty (2/17)…scored a season-high eight points against Presbyterian (1/14).
2013-14: First-year team member … member of the first recruiting class for head coach Jayson Gee ... started five of 32 games, averaging 19.2 minutes, 2.2 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.0 assists ... shot a team-leading .569 (33-of-58) from the field ... ranked third on the team with 104 total rebounds and 38 offensive rebounds.
High School: All-City First Team honors as a senior at Dunbar (Ohio), averaging 11.3 points, 8.3 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 2.2 steals and 1.6 blocks … helped Dunbar to a 21-7 record as a senior and a 28-0 record as a junior when DHS won the Ohio Division II State Championships … also a member of DHS’s State Championship team as a freshman … played in the District 15 All-Star Game.
Personal: Son of Erika Geter and Cornelius Hurt … name pronounced “Duh-MARR-ee-ahn GEE-ter” … born in Dayton, Ohio … has four brothers: Shon, Gevon, Trevon and Dionte and two sisters: Tenaysia and Tenya.
