Former Clemson men's basketball letterwinner and graduate assistant coach Riley McGillan joined the Longwood athletics department in September, 2018, and was named the men's basketball director of operations in August, 2019.

In his role with the Lancers, McGillan oversees and assists in numerous aspects of the program, including practice preparation, film, data analytics, travel operations, academic oversight and general quality control. McGillan also assists the Longwood athletics communications office as the coordinator of social media, a role in which he aids in the department's social media outreach and the design and production of digital media elements.

The son of current Longwood assistant coach and 29-year coaching veteran Marty McGillan, Riley McGillan's college basketball resume spans back to his time with the Clemson men's basketball program, during which he ascended from student manager to student-athlete and eventually graduate assistant coach. During his six seasons with the Tigers, he was part of two 20-win teams and three postseason-bound squads, including in 2017-18 season when, as a graduate assistant coach, he helped Clemson reach the NCAA Sweet 16 for the first time in more than 20 years.

McGillan joined Aldrich's staff after serving the Longwood athletics department as an education specialist within the student-athlete enhancement unit during the 2018-19 academic year. In that role, he provided academic support and oversight to Longwood's cross country, women's lacrosse and women's soccer programs, coordinating with coaches, compliance officers and academic advisors while monitoring academic performance of each of his assigned student-athletes. Each of those programs achieved a GPA of at least 3.00 during both semesters of the 2018-19 academic calendar.

McGillan also held a parallel role in Longwood's NCAA compliance office where he assisted the department with recruiting identification and CARA monitoring while serving as a compliance resource for the Lancer department.

Beginning from his days as an undergraduate at Clemson in 2012, McGillan is nearing a decade of experience in college athletics in various roles. As a freshman and sophomore, he was part of the Tigers' staff of team managers and assisted with practice, individual workouts, drills and in scouting opponents. In that role, he also prepared scouting reports for coaches and players and assisted in a number of other areas, including camps, special events, schedule and administrative office tasks.

After his two-year stint as a team manager, McGillan earned a roster spot with the Tigers and competed for three full seasons under head coach Brad Brownell from 2014-17. During that time, Clemson posted three consecutive winning seasons and reached the 2017 National Invitational Tournament. The following year he returned to the program as a graduate assistant coach and helped lead the Tigers to a 25-10 record, a third-place finish in the ACC and a run to the NCAA Sweet 16.

McGillan collected numerous academic honors at Clemson, including a pair of Clemson All-Academic Team honors, the men's basketball program's Academic Excellence Award, and the Clemson Athletics Director's Academic Excellence Award. He was a four-time Dean's List selection in the College of Business and Behavior Sciences.

McGillan earned his Bachelor of Science in marketing from Clemson in 2016 and went on to earn his Masters in Athletic Leadership in 2018.
