Longwood baseball alum C.J. Roth returned to his alma mater in 2017 as an assistant sports performance coach and was promoted to assistant director of sports performance in 2019. Roth currently oversees sports performance development of the Longwood baseball, men’s soccer, men’s and women’s tennis, and men’s and women’s golf.
In addition to his sport-specific duties, Roth oversees the development of the Student Athlete Enhancement workshops and has also been instrumental in organizing the Longwood Invitational Special Olympics Powerlifting each February for the last three years.
Prior to Longwood, Roth served as a sports performance intern at VCU where he assisted with the performance of baseball, field hockey, volleyball, women’s lacrosse, track and cross country. He also has experience as a Strength and Conditioning Intern at Wofford where he assisted with the football and men’s and women’s basketball programs.
Roth also served as an intern for current Assistant Athletics Director for Sports Performance and Leadership, Rick Canter, during his time as an undergraduate student at Longwood. He’s a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the NSCA, as well as CPR and AED certified through the American Heart Association and is a member of the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association. He also holds a CSCCa-SCCC certification.
Roth earned his Master’s of Education degree in sport leadership at VCU in May 2019 and holds a Bachelor of Science in exercise science from Longwood University where he graduated from in 2016.
A four-year student-athlete on the baseball team, the former team captain served as both the Vice President and President of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (S.A.A.C.) and was a baseball team representative for the Lancer Leadership program.
Roth, a four-year starter, holds the Longwood record for most games played in school history (201) and played a key role in leading the Lancers to the semifinals of the 2016 Big South Championship before falling to eventual College World Series champion Coastal Carolina.
