Thank you for your interest in Longwood cheerleading! As a proud part of Longwood athletics, our team is respected on campus and in the community. Cheerleading is a full academic year commitment, with tryouts held in April or May. We strive to represent Longwood University with pride and professionalism in everything we do.
What We Do
We cheer at all home men's and women's basketball games, and support our teams during winter break at the Big South Conference Basketball Championship during spring break, Travel to Daytona Beach, Florida to compete at NCA College Nationals and other required events,
Competition Team
Up to 20 members are selected for the competition team, with additional athletes serving as alternates. Participation is not guaranteed, and the roster may change throughout the season based on performance and academic standing. The travel team is determined by the coaching staff.
Academic & Participation Requirements
Cheerleaders must maintain a 2.0 GPA and full-time enrollment (12+ credit hours), attend all team activities, arrive early, and uphold a team-first mindset — living the "All One" philosophy by supporting each other on and off the court.
Study Hall
New members complete 8 study hall hours per week. After the first semester, hours are based on GPA: 3.0+ requires none, 2.5–2.99 requires 4 hours, and below 2.5 requires 8 hours per week.
