
Tim Fudd is in his first year as a new assistant coach for men's basketball at Longwood University during 2007-08. He was the head coach at Notre Dame Academy in Middleburg during 2006-07, leading the program to a 33-1 record and the Virginia Independent Schools (VIS) Division II State Championship while earning VIS Division II and Loudoun County Coach of the Year honors.
At Longwood, Fudd’s responsibilities include on and off campus recruiting, opponent scouting and game plan preparation, player skill development, and assisting with practice preparation.
Fudd led Notre Dame Academy to its best record ever last season, including a school-record 30 wins before its first loss. The program won seven tournaments and was ranked #2 in Virginia among both public and private schools, according to MaxPreps/USA Today, while improving upon the previous year’s record of 13-18. In addition to his state and county coaching accolades, Fudd was also named the DCMetroHoops.Net Metropolitan Co-Coach of the Year.
Fudd also has previous high school assistant coaching experience at The Bullis School in Potomac, Maryland (2004-06), The Potomac School in McLean (2000-04), and at Fairfax High School (2003-05). He has played professionally in Europe as well, including time in Holland (1997-98), Finland (1997-98), Spain (1998-99), and Venezuela (1999). Fudd was also co-founder of the NOVA Select AAU Club (2000-02), and has coached the Middleburg Lions AAU (2003-05), the Starz Performance Basketball AAU (2004-05), and with the Boo Williams Summer League travel team (2007).
A native of Falls Church, Fudd earned his bachelor of science degree in business administration from The American University in 1996. He was a member of the men’s basketball team from 1991-96, including a redshirt season, earning All-Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) honors during 1993-94, when he led the CAA in scoring (20.0), and 1995-96; finishing his career ranked 12th on the AU all-time scoring list and 15th on the school’s all-time rebounding list. Fudd was a two-year team captain as well for then Eagles’ head coach and current Maryland radio analyst Chris Knoche (1994-96). He earned All-State and All-Region honors as a senior at Chantilly High School, leading CHS to the 1991 Northern Region Championship.
Fudd is married to the former Katie Smrcka-Duffy, a 2001 graduate of Georgetown University where she was a three-year standout on the women’s basketball team after playing one season at North Carolina State University (1997 ACC Rookie of the Year). Smrcka-Duffy is a former high school All-American at Madison High School in northern Virginia and scored 2,463 career points, second all-time in Virginia High School League history. She was drafted by the WNBA’s Sacramento Monarchs in 2001, but never played due to injury. The couple have a daughter (Azzi, 4).
