Levon Saribekyan Named Big South Freshman of the Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - For the third-straight week, Longwood men's soccer was recognized with a Big South Conference weekly award as freshman Levon Saribekyan was named the league's freshman of the week on Tuesday.

Saribekyan started both games at the forward position in helping the Lancers to a 2-0 week with road wins at Campbell and ETSU. He played all but six minutes in the two contests as Longwood extended its season-opening winning streak to five matches. It marks the second-longest streak in the program's Division I history, while it is the program's fourth 5-0 start in school history.

In the victory at ETSU, Saribekyan netted a second-half hat trick to help Longwood rally from a halftime deficit in the 4-3 victory. In fact, the Lancers have rallied from at least a goal deficit in all three of its road wins this season.

Saribekyan scored twice in a 5:41 span to put the Lancers on top 3-2 in the 65th minute. After the Bucs tied the match, he converted a penalty kick with five minutes remaining to give Longwood its fifth-straight win.

On the season, Saribekyan is part of a potent offense that ranks second nationally in goals  (4.2), assists (4.6), and points per game (13.0). Individually, Saribekyan ranks fifth in the country in points (2.5) and goals per game (1.0). He is second in the Big South in goals (4) behind only teammate Joshwa Campbell, while coming in third in points (10), behind teammates Brando Bedolla and Campbell, and seventh in assists (2).

It marks the third-straight week that a Lancer has been honored with a Big South award. Saribekyan joins Bedolla and Youssef Shafei in being recognized. They both earned offensive player of the week honors the previous two weeks.

Longwood wraps up its three-match road trip with its lone game of this week at in-state foe James Madison on Friday, Sept. 11. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m., and the game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
