FARMVILLE, Va. – Longwood baseball never got on track, and Charleston Southern did to open a three-game series between the two teams on Friday night.

Â
Alex Marot led CSU with six RBI while going 3-3 at the plate with a pair of home runs, and the Charleston Southern pitching staff limited Longwood to three runs despite 10 Lancer hits.
Jae'dan Carter led the Longwood offense with three base knocks.

Â
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Â
Charleston Southern loaded the bases but failed to score in the first, but the Bucs didn't make that mistake in the second. With one out, six straight players reached base, and Marot capped the rally with a two-run home run that staked his team to a 6-0 lead.
Â
Mac Tufts and
Jack McMullan answered with back-to-back base hits in the bottom of the second, but a double play sapped Longwood's momentum despite a run that cut the lead to 6-1.
Â
CSU answered with a run in the third, and then Marot hit his second home run of the day in the sixth for a 9-1 lead.
Â
Longwood answered with an RBI single from
Bentley Yeatts, but the damage was done.
Ben Pulliam drove in the final run for the Lancers, but the Charleston Southern offense was on a roll to close it out.
Â
Titus Von Kapff (6-4) earned the win for CSU, tossing 6.2 solid innings. He struck out six, many of them timely, to work around eight hits and five walks that led to three runs.
Â
Jaxon Lloyd (6-3) suffered the loss. He gave up seven runs in four innings of work.
WHAT THEY SAID:
"Rough one tonight," said Longwood Head Coach
Ray Noe. "We didn't have the spark and juice we usually have on Friday nights, and that showed in our play. Give credit to CSU, they attacked our arms and put up close to 20 hits. Offensively, I felt like we were okay but just couldn't do enough to stay with them."
"They all count the same (losses), and I'm excited to watch this group bounce back tomorrow," Noe added.Â
