FARMVILLE, Va. – Jack McMullan swatted a late home run, and
Jaxon Lloyd gave Longwood eight sharp innings on the mound.
Â
Unfortunately for the Lancers (21-17, 6-7 Big South), Presbyterian's Tyrell Williams was also sharp, striking out seven while pitching into the eighth to lead the Blue Hose (9-30, 5-8 Big South) to a 3-2 win.

Â
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Â
Both pitchers were ruthlessly efficient on the night in a low-scoring Friday-night affair at Buddy Bolding Stadium.
Â
Lloyd (4-2) struck out six for Longwood in his deepest outing of the season. He went eight innings while giving up only three runs on seven hits and a walk. He needed only 102 pitches to go eight innings and faced the minimum three times in his eight frames to take the tough-luck loss.
Â
Williams (1-2) matched him pitch-for-pitch for seven innings though and only exited after giving up the homer to McMullan to start the eighth. Williams gave up two runs on four hits and a walk in the outing and tossed only 97 pitches. Robbie Boykin picked up the save for the visitors with two scoreless frames.
Â
Presbyterian struck first with a sacrifice fly from Matthew Rollison in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead, but Longwood responded with a run in the second inning.
Â
A little small ball fueled the Lancers, as McMullan dropped down a sacrifice bunt that scored Tre Keels from third to knot the game at one apiece.
Â
Cam Mallo poked a two-run single through the left side to put PC up 3-1 in the fourth.
Â
McMullan homered on the first pitch he saw to start the bottom of the eighth inning, but Boykin came on and retired six straight to close out the game.
WHAT THEY SAID:
"Great Friday night game," said Longwood Head Coach
Ray Noe. "Lloyd and williams absolutely dealt and went toe-to-toe.
Cam Freeman and
Jackson Garland did a great job of making pitches there late in leverage situations as well."
"Offensively I felt like we were on teh barrell at times, but at the end of the day, only producing four hits wasn't enough to get the win tonight," Noe added. "
Jack McMullan had a big swing there late to cut it to one, but we weren't able to capitalize the rest of the way."
Â
ADDITIONAL NOTES:
Â
- Lloyd went eight innings, his deepest start, but he has gone at least six innings in all nine starts this season.
- McMullan's home run was his third homer of the season.
- It was also McMullan's fourth multi-RBI game this season.
