MONTGOMERY, AL. – Longwood baseball came up short in both games of a doubleheader against Alabama State, falling 11-6 in the opener before a 9-3 setback in game two at Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex.
Jae 'Dan Carter led Longwood (12-4) with four hits on the day, but the Alabama State (8-7) offense erupted for 20 runs on the day.

GAME 1: LONGWOOD 6, ALABAMA STATE 11
Alabama State struck first with two two-run homers to take the early lead.
Longwood responded in the second with a solo homer from
Lucas Johnson and again in the third with a 2 RBI single from
Jayson Nash and a 2 RBI triple from
Jack McMullan that put the Lancers up 5-4.
The Hornets quickly responded in the bottom of the third with another two-run homer to take the lead again. They extended the lead 10-5 in the seventh with another two-run homer, two RBI singles as the lead extended.
Ben Pulliam cut into the lead after getting hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to drive in a run, but the Lancers could get no closer than 11-6.
Joe Castrichini (1-1) took the loss after pitching 3.1 innings and giving up four runs in the first.
Trey Power (2-2) got the win after pitching five innings, allowing six hits and five runs.

GAME 2: LONGWOOD 3, ALABAMA STATE 9
The Lancers took the lead in the first on an RBI groundout from
Jon Howard.
Alabama State responded with five runs in the bottom of the first to take the lead 5-1.
The Hornets continued scoring in the third with two RBI doubles and a sac fly to further the lead 8-1.
Max Lawson cut it to 8-2 with an RBI off a fielder's choice in the fourth, and
Brogan Jones had an RBI sac fly in the fifth to make the score 8-3 but the Hornets capped the scoring in in the sixth with an RBI single to make it 9-3.
Brady Hoover (1-1) took the loss for the Lancers after pitching 2.1 innings, walking one with two strikeouts, and giving up eight hits and runs.
Jaxon Baptist (1-3) got the win, pitching seven innings with six hits and three earned runs.

Ray Noe. "They got after us in each of our starts and hit our mistakes really hard. This was a great test for our guys this weekend, and we learned a lot about the club today."
