FARMVILLE, Va. — Gardner-Webb's Alexandre Bergeron outlasted Timéo Puech at No. 1 singles in three sets to lift the Runnin' Bulldogs to a 4-3 dual match win over Longwood in the Big South opener for both on the New Lancer Courts on Friday. 

Bergeron won, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 for the clinching point after Longwood climbed all the way to in the match with wins on courts six and two from Alejandro Uribe and Daniel Borisov, respectively. 

Longwood claimed the doubles point as Ninad Raut and Rufus Plane topped Adam Patry and Noah Zeiger, 6-3, at No. 2 and Daniel Lopez and Uribe defeated Bergeron and Johan Van Wijk, 6-4.

Gardner-Webb opened singles with a 6-2, 6-3 victory by Noah Zeiger against Lopez at No. 4 to tied the match at 1-1, and got wins from Kaua Cressoni over Plane at No. 3, 6-3, 6-3 and Van Wijk at No. 6 against Petter Lindquist, 6-4, 6-2 to make it 3-1.

Uribe beat Patry 6-3, 7-7 (8) and Borisov beat Boyd Schreiber 6-3, 3-6, 7-5,

Longwood falls to 4-4 and 0-1 in the league with the loss, while Gardner-Webb improves to 8-3 and 1-0 with the win.

Both the men's and women's matches at Presbyterian scheduled for Sunday have been positioned. The men's team's next match is set for Tuesday, March 17 at Norfolk State. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
